Sorry for the noob question, but is firefox available for 3.5.4.1 Akita?
It's not in the feeds that were setup by default.[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=122587\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
It installs fine on my poodle. Running it is another story. BOY is it SLOW to load!!  Well, whattayah expect, after all?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=122652\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Did you install to CF or SD? Can you post the method you used to install?

Thanks in advance.

Best Regards,
Randall.

3.5.4.1-alpha can use 3.5.4 feed without problems and gpe-image is configured with right feeds to install it.

Installed to SD (which for me is an ext2 formatted fs). Didn't have to do anything special, just 'ipkg -d sd install firefox' & then 'ipkg-link add' all the dependant packages. Just to be safe, do a 'ipkg-link mount /media/card/packages' (if for sd) afterwards.

I think my feeds were messed up and that's why I couldn't see just "firefox".

Is there a consensus in this thread that firefox in OZ is too slow (basically unusable when compared to opera on sharp/cacko or is this too drastic of a statement)? Also, is there any hope for something to be optimized to make it usable (and any chance someone is working on this)?

I would categorize it as only marginally usable. I wouldn't go as far as saying it is unusable.

Dillo is the speed champ, while Opera is the features/speed trade-off champ. Firefox is in need of a good "haircut"  to be responsive enough for everyday use. It's too bloated.

Cheers,
Randall.

My 2 cents:
Opera / Netfront: quite good and fast but does not always render pages properly

gpe-mini-browser: quite good and fast but found it a bit unstable

Dillo: very, very fast and can render most pages

Firefox: almost unusable untill I create a swap partition. Now I use it when Dillo can't render a page, but still too slow to use as main browser.

Thank you for very useful discussion of firefox and other browser options.
Up until now I was under impression that it is not worth it to try oz (or pdaxrom) until firefox is properly running on it (or opera gets native port etc). However, it seems like the opinion in the community is that some of the smaller browsers are actually not that far off at least in ability to quickly and properly render most pages (and that is all I'm really interested in and what has been holding me on cacko until now - since browsing and ssh is at least 80% of my z usage I could not see justification to mess with "alternative" roms unless they have a decent browser).
