Sd Card Resuscitation

I am looking for suggestions as to how to resuscitate a disfunctional sd card.  It is no longer recognized by the Z, nor by window$ xp.  I cannot format it using fdisk, nor does mkfs.ext2 work.  Does anyone have any tricks that will kickstart this thing back into functionality.

As a suggestion, boot your Z without the card, then get a terminal and type

tail -f /var/log/messages

then insert the card. You should see some messages appear. If you do, send them in. If you see no messages, the card is likely defective.

For what it's worth, I once had an SD card do the same as you described. In my case, the manufacturer sent me a new one when I sent them the defective one, no questions asked. SanDisk (1-866-726-3476) was the manufacturer, and as a result of that stellar customer service, I've bought many of their cards since. All have worked flawlessly.

I think you're seeing a defective card.
The message appears to say that the Z recognizes there's an SD card inserted, but can't do anything with it.
One last test would be to try a known working card in the slot and see if your messages differ. Try picking up the cheapest SD card you can find (or borrow). Low capacity cards <512MB are really cheap and make good test disks, and after the test is done you will have a spare to use for re-flashes, etc.

Isn't it simply amazing that we consider flash cards of 512mb or so as "good test disks". Even a couple of years ago such technology wasn't even available, let alone practical for such a mundane, cheap task.
