Does anyone have an Intermec 6651?

Is it possible to put Linux on?
Are they made by Sharp?

There seems to be precious little information about them on the net. The processor seems a tad slow but the screen looks good. I am struggling with the smalls creen on the SL series.

I would like a Flybook but finances won't run to it.

hi, i have an intermec 6651 (well, two but the second is half dead, bought it only for its battery).

yes they're made by sharp, the bottom says produced by "sharp corporation"

the sharp telios hc7000 is the original model, the same basically (there was talk about some remote controller functionality that won't work on the intermec but dunno what this means)

netbsd may be possible, i don't know about linux. the cpu isn't that slow, except for videos, it can't cope with large resolutions for video. other than that it is absolutely ok. and the screen is indeed excellent.  800x480, and 7" and very bright. i too sometimes have problems with the small screen on the zaurus... surely no such problem with the intermec

any other questions, just ask.

OK, got one. I am pretty impressed with it apart fmor the OS. Is there a Windows update for it anywhere or is 2000 CE that latest one. Have you any applications that work on it like a good text reader.

This thing is jsut shouting to be ripped apart and have my 3000 internals put in it.

See my thread on https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=19032

Unfortunately HPC2000 is the latest for the Intermec 6651. As mentioned by cmonex, NetBSD is the only recourse, and even then, it is not a flash in, but a boot-from-CF solution.

That's why I refuse to plunk in $300 for a 6651. If its 100+, I would consider it and not pin for an upgrade to its OS or apps. At $300, I would at least a Zaurus like capabilities with upgrade options.

Why, oh, why does the SHARP brain not realise that a $499 Zaurus like device at the size of a 6651 with InstantOn would be a hit?

ok, i dunno whats your problem with the OS apart from that it is less stable than cacko on my zaurus. let me know, maybe there's a solution. sadly Snappy is right, you cant get another newer OS for the mips cpu.

alot of apps will run on it, visit this site: [a href=\"http://yetanotherhomepage.com/j7xx]http://yetanotherhomepage.com/j7xx[/url] and there software section. though the MIPS cpu does somewhat limit software availability. if it were ARM i'd say it has more software available than the zauruses
