Wouldn't the manfid be totally different in the case of a change in chipset?

Many cards use one set of manfid/prodid when they are incompatible - common is 0x0156, 0x0002 - handled by orinoco_cs by default but many of them will work with hostap_cs (but not every).

I found time and searched to check situation of Hermes II cards (most of 802.11g CF ones). Agere provide drivers but only for 2.4 kernels ;( We are goint to 2.6 kernel on every Z possible so it looks like those cards currently will be usable only on non-clamshells (as they are not yet switched to 2.6 kernel).

So Lurker - if you did not yet send card then look does it make sense - my c760 use 2.6 kernel and only 2.4 powered machine here is collie which I rarely use.

Actually, I am not much dissapointed with this news. I knew from the start that it was a gamble. Wireless-G on the Zaurus is not as important to me now, anyways. I recently realized that I should be focusing on what I can do with the Zaurus now instead of wasting all my time dreaming of how I can make it my "perfect" mobile PC.

Well, if I was not called in to work today then you would have been the proud owner of a useless Wireless-G CF card. And to think that WPA isn't even supported in the Windows Mobile drivers. What a waste! That won't stop me from returning the card to eBay, though

Thanks again for your help, Hrw!

its a shame about that, i was looking foward to G speeds, at the moment i am really considering how hard it would be to just build a pda with the specs we want and sell it off at no profit OR sell the design to a company with an agreement to sell the hardware to individuals, espesially with the pxa290 comming up it would be quite nice

Hello,

Has anyone been keeping track of this beast?
http://www.socketcom.com/product/WL6010-676.asp

Read the press release about it:
http://www.socketcom.com/about/press/read.asp?ID=188

It specifically mentions Linux support. I've sent the company an email asking about the status of any linux drivers and am awaiting a reply.

Hopefully, this is a card based on a chipset that already has basic driver support. It seems to be relatively (compared to cards like Ambicom's WL54-CF) low-power too.

Any thoughts anyone?

Driver is available only for 2.4 kernel and is hard to compile. No driver for 2.6 so I do not plan to work on it.

Hi guys,

Since looking for 802.11g wireless card for Z was frutless for me,
I suggest all people that are interested to join effort and offer some price for Linksys WCF54G driver for someone who is able to write it. If there are many of us supplying a little amount, I thing that ate the end we will have big amount :-)

Most of the networks now are 802.11g for security reasons, so using 11b is not an option.

However, if someone knows 11g card working with Z, I would be greteful to hear.
