Questions About The Original Sharp Rom
« on: May 26, 2006, 02:08:13 pm »
I'm thinking about going back to the original Sharp rom (currently using Cacko) because of the annoying problems I am currently having.  I would just like to know about any problems that the SHARP rom has so I can make an informed decision.

First of all, does the sharp rom suffer from any of the following problems?
--usb drive sometimes flakes out and requires a reboot to fix.
--japanese filenames do not show correctly (utf8) when transfered from my linux box
--network applet doesn't work at all and card requires a manual reset to get connected
--zaurus still turns its self off when connected as a usb drive (effectivly damaging data)

The only problem I remember having with the original sharp rom was that my zaurus would hard-lock if I pulled out the wifi card without disconnecting first

I am thankful for any help.

so far, nothing.  But if you can't get your sd card to work, then its an sd driver issue.  I know you use a sd card driver to get your 2gb sd to work.

the network dealie, look at my site for the solution provided by someone here...

the rest I havent seen, then again I dont really use the usbd0 mode anyways, I use bt to transfer files or my sd card

although I have thought about moving back based on the way the hdd's are mounted, I just bugs me, but then again bottom line I have gcc, dev-img, and stratagus, and everything else just works, with its quirks. I mean hek its linux, wouldnt be linux without the quirks

I just flashed from sharp to cacko on my 3100.  Sharp, imho, will give your fewer results for more headaches.  Cacko basically is sharp.... but refined. Put simply, more stuff seems to work more easily using cacko.

Questions About The Original Sharp Rom

Well, I found the original Japanese rom here: http://support.ezaurus.com/sl-c3100/update...0updatecard.asp

But I just flashed it and it seems to be stuck at the しばらくお待ちください。。。(the sharp waiting screen).

So I'm guessing that I need to repartition the flash back to what it was before cacko because the jp rom flashing program doesn't do it.  The question is, what was the original partition?

EDIT:  Ok, I'm guessing it should be 29mb as the initrd.bin file is 28.3mb.  Let's see if it works!

EDIT2:  Nope, that didn't do it    Maybe what I found is just an update and not the whole rom?

that was what I had intended.  I never had any success with the "backup" stuff from trisoft's site, the hd restore backup stuff even errors out...though it works (after a brief panic on my part). the nand restore works perfectly
