Lotus Notes And Zaurus
« on: June 08, 2006, 02:42:42 am »
Hi,

I have a SL-C3100 Zaurus with Cacko 1.23. In general I feel good with the zaurus but now I want to synchronize  my Zaurus with Lotus Notes. Regrettably I haven 't enough knowledge or experience to come along with it.

I spend much time to find anything working at this forum but with no success!

One entry at this forum "https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=72&t=5351" talks from Intellisync 5.00.02 which should have "Lotus Notes Connectors"  but sadly this version of intellisync isn 't available anymore. Does someone has it and maybe could provide it for me.

Did someone manage it to synchronize Zaurus [Ko/Pi, KA/Pi, email] with Lotus Notes?

Regards

I used XTNDConnect to sync Notes with Outlook, then Outlook to Zaurus.  I do not sync with Z anymore so I have not tested this in over a year.

There are a several Lotus add-ons that allow you to forward your email to a POP or IMAP account. One I like, WirelessMail, has a good many filters and optimizations depending on whether you access with a phone, handheld with limited storage or slow internet link, or a laptop.  For my purposes, this has been better than syncing. The Zaurus with added CF or SD storage and fast wireless access can handle the mail much like a laptop using ported desktop software.

I do not have a zaurus anymore, but I used to use doublelook to sync Outlook with Notes. It worked pretty well for basic syncing and it is not too expensive

- Someone wrote some LS to cobble this together, and it was called NotesSync if I recall.  If you look around the 'net you can find it, if you can't I'm pretty sure I have at least one version of it lying around here somewheres.  I also think I have the source for it, because the dude isn't active with it any longer and has no intention of ever going back to it, but I've never looked at it.
- I have some interest in this for work.  They're always complaining that my calendar doesn't show what I'm doing, because it's all in the Z.  (grin)  I'm better at double-entering it, now.  I don't consider it enough of an issue to spend lots of time figuring it all out, because I don't do lots of meetings or read/answer work e-mail on the Z.
- I do know I wouldn't use LookOut! (outlook according to lord gates) for anything; I'd double-enter before double-sync with that virus propagator.  Your mileage may vary.  (grin)
- If you'd like the NotesSync source, and I can *find* it, I'm sure dude wouldn't mind me passing it along.  PM me and I'll pass it along.

The note at the bottom of the NotesSync website says the Pro version is now free and source available.

--->  http://www.notessync.com/

Has anyone gotten NotesSync to sync with KO/Pi and KA/Pi on the C1000 or C3xxx running Cacko?

Hi,

as it seems impossible to find any sync solutions for notes and SL-C3100 anymore, I would be very interested in the NotesSync. Any HP providing the appropriate SW is down or misses at least the downloads.
I'm a proud owner of a SL-C3100 since 2 weeks and everything works just fine exept the sync with notes 6.5 which we use at work.

Thanks and greetings

- Dang.  The notesync site appears to be an aggregator.  HATE those things!  Now I have to go look for what I have ... PM me so next login OESF will notify me about it.  I'm in Washington DC at the moment and I'm pretty sure the source is on the LAN at home.  Never got 'round to setting up external access via SSH yet.  D'oh!
- Nope.  Here it be.  'Fraid it appears to be a mixed version ... I have v15 (2003) of the NSF part and v16 (2005) of the LSS files that go with it.  I have another ZIP named "notessync16-all.zip", but ZIP can't read it and RAR says it's got the v16 NSF but complains the archive is truncated.  Bogus!
- I stuck all three of them on here, or at least I'm under the impression I did.
- Hope this helps...

Ragnorok,

thanks for the file upload. I just installed the 1.5-Version, but it doesn't work yet   . The problem is that no help can be found on the net a la step by step instruction. The NSF-part is clear. It's a Notes database which can be opened within Notes and shows up the NotesSync window. But what are the LSS-files for? Perhaps these files are the clue for getting it work. Any Ideas??

Thanks

- LSS stands for "LotusScript Source".  If you know LotusScript the purpose of these files should become obvious.  I know LotusScript like the back of my hand, yet in the last two years I've not even unzipped these at looked at them.  (smirk)
- Just extracted "Notesync-lss.zip" and sho-nuff it's plain old LotusScript.  The "arrays.lss" file, for instance, simply populates a bunch of arrays set up by DimArrays.lss.  File "hash.lss" declares a class, MD5; if using R6+ I'd scrap this and use LS2J to call Java and use its built-in digesting functionality.  The "Network.lss" declares the NotesFTPSession class which uses a whole slow of API calls to wininet.dll; again LS2J on R6+ I'd think Java would be more understandable and portable than winbloze calls. Orig contactmapping.lss declares and populates arrays to map Notes to Z, which seems like an odd way to do this 'cause pulling data from documents in Notes is literally a no-brainer.  This entire configuration could be put in documents and made easily modifiable with significantly less lines of code.
- I'm not seeing anything out of the ordinary in this code, and I *assume* that the db uses it all somewhere, but I haven't looked at it to see.  The db isn't in the same directory as the ZIP for some obtuse reason.  Guess I could always download it again!  (giggle)
- LotusScript is simply VB by another name, so if you or another are familiar with VB code, .lss files should be obvious.
- Hope this helps...

P.S.  File "work.lss" is using the NotesFTPSession to connect to qcop on the Z using hard-code parameters.  Looks like the bulk of the "real deal" is here.

Hi all,

I didn't manage to repair the corrupted file notessync16-all.zip Does anyone has this file lying around somewhere and is willing to upload it here? Obviously the 1.5 version does not work.

Thanks a lot

- I'm at home now, and rediscovered this thread.  It appears all copies of v16 are borked, which doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

- I also found a file called notesyncb21.exe, which is a self-extracting ZIP that contains a Notes Template, but I can't see to get at the design of that template, even it defaults to Manager.  (shrug)  I know there's a way for people to hide code but I've never known what it was, nor encountered it before.
- One down side is this appears to be an upgrade from v1.x, because the instructions say to copy and paste documents from your v1.x NotesSync into this one.  I'm hoping, without having tried it (no connectivity to the laptop at present) that all of those documents are "state" information, and if a sync is done with a 'virgin' install it'll work.  I stuck it on here just in case.

- I can't upload a self-extracting ZIP, so I renamed it to "notessyncb21exe.zip".  It is NOT a ZIP.  Strip the .zip and make it .exe, and it will extract a .NTF (notes template) and a Readme.txt to your directory of choice.  Sure I could have repackaged it, but this was simpler.  (shrug)

- Hope this helps...

Just found that thread, too.
As we are migrating to Notes here, I think I´ll give it a try and report afterwards in the next 2 weeks.

Otherwise I found a JAVA library to access Lotus Notes database and I believe it should be easy to hack something together which reads out contacts, datebooks and todolists to generate the appropriate XML files for the Z.
Now I just need some time to do this...

- I've thought of doing this many times, particularly since I use KDEPIM and it stores in a standard format.  It should be easy enough to whip up some Java to 'swap-spit', especially since I do system-to-system integration with Domino for living.  (grin)
- Domino, btw, doesn't need a "library" for Java access to its data ... it supports Java natively and ships with a JVM for JSP, servlet, and other such support.  Each iteration of Domino adds more Java awareness; though we don't yet have R8 where I work it looks like quite the deal from a Java standpoint.  Even R6 allows Java development right in Domino Designer, and external JARs are usable back to R4.
- Alas, though I've owned a Z for six years, coding some Java to sync data has never attained sufficient priority for me to bump some other activity in its favor.  In fact, sync never has and doesn't stand a huge chance of ever being important to me.  (shrug)  But I agree it should be not only doable with Java, but not overly complex to boot.
