Let\'s get a SF ZUG started!

Post a message if you are interested, and provide any relevant info about yourself.

Also, let\'s get a first meeting data set...  maybe late May / early June?

It looks like we should have our first ZUG meeting during the LinuxWorld Expo in early August... how about an evening of one of the expo days (August 5, 6, 7)?

Also, how can we only have 4 members, while those cheese heads in Wisconsin have twice as many members???

I agree, it\'s crazy we have fewer members then the Wisconsin group...what, are they using them to navigate their tractors via GPS?

...ok, I\'m allowed that joke because I\'m actually from rural Wisconsin myself ;-)

Anyway, my sister-in-law lives near Tokyo, and arrived for a visit on 9/2. I decided to seize the opportunity and have her pick up a Zaurus for me before her flight (I had been reading about them for months). The total from the Tokyo retailer was 63,000 yen (about $540) for my shiny new SL-C760. She kindly plugged it in to charge when she arrived at my wife\'s parents house that morning, and it was ready to go when I swung by after work.

I had a really hard time not grabbing it the second I arrived and diving into English conversion...but I played it cool and hung out with the family :-) Finally she brought it out herself (I think she was pretty interested in seeing me turn it on by that point). She was pretty skeptical that I would be able to do anything with it, since all the people at the Tokyo store were telling her she shouldn\'t buy it because it was impossible to run in English ;-) The whole family (wife\'s parents, nephew/nieces, etc.) wanted to touch it and look at the screen. Nobody could believe how sharp and clear it was. And most of them also thought I was certifiable for spending that much money on a Japanese computer when I know zero Japanese.

Anyway, the last week has included a LOT of late nights, and resulted in a completely fabulous english PDA! [I\'m really good at DM, OK+ON, and CD tricks at this point] I\'ve owned so many PDA\'s over the years, but have never been as excited by the possibilities. The combination of open source, with an active community of developers, and best-in-class hardware puts the Zaurus in a league of it\'s own. My PDA history:

1987 ... 2003
Sharp EL-5500 --] Newton --] Palm(several) --] HP200LX --] Clie(several) --] Zaurus

Anyway, enough about me, back to the ZUG....

One suggestion: Maybe we should make an effort to combine the SF and SV groups into one? It seems like we could find some place to meet in the middle.....and the groups are individually pretty small right now.

I\'m really bummed that I got on the Zaurus train after the Linuxworld meeting, as that would have been a great opportunity.

Thanks for putting together this website....and I hope to meet some of you fellow Zarunauts in the future :-)

Welcome, welcome, welcome!

I think it might be time to try and pull together another meet-up.  Until the SF and Silicon Valley groups get large enough, I\'ll always invite everyone in both groups.

Maybe this time we could try to meet up on the penninsula?  I could carpool/drive people from SF (for those without cars).

Maybe late Sept. / early Oct?

What do you all think?

Regards,
Michael

Thanks for the welcome!

I\'ll be out of town until October 15th. Anytime after that would be best for me. A meeting place on the penninsula is fine.

I\'m up for a meet anytime.  I\'m in San Ramon, I\'ve had my Z for about 18 months, love it.  I\'ve got a bud in SJ with a Z, maybe we can both get to a meet.

Sounds great..  so considering mk500 is out of town, we could have our next meet up on or around Saturday 10/18.  Would you all rather a meeting to be during the week or on a weekend day?
