I'm sorry i mixed up two topics in one

the kernel you provide it works fine but the wireless card stil gives the same error

ok, I did a little more digging.

I was dubious about the original change making the card work since the wi driver actually did seem to recognise the card even though there was no specific card ID. I now think this was happening through CIS recognition so that renders the patch unnecessary.

The failure is actually in the bus independent code that talks to the prism chipset and may possibly be, as hus originally speculated, related to either Firmware revision or a vendor specific device initialisation required for this card.

I suppose the card functions ok under Linux does it?

Yes it dose work ( with hack ) when card connected to the zaurus it loads up the firmware to the card.
i was looking around for a hostap driver for openbsd and seems there is something out there, if there is a precompiled package (hostap) will be great to point me to it.

here is the mistake of buyin' non atheros chipset base wireless card :/ (no firmware no headach).

i'll try to figure out how to upload a firmware to the card within OpenBSD and see how it goes.

Hostap is built into the wi driver.

Ok, now I know more about the problem - firmware needs uploading under Linux I can tell you that the card is flagged to run a ram based Firmware.

You can change this with a program called winupdate (from a Windows box ). Check out this site for details.

i don't really want to mess with it because it's a prism3 based (to my knowledge suppose to be the latest firmware), i'll keep checking and let you update when i get something new.

There is no prism3 firmware download built into OpenBSD at the moment, it is feasible to write such a thing, however, the safest bet is to install firmware onto the cards flash. - From what you have told me it sounds like the card may not be carrying any firmware other than the most rudimentary host-driver bootstrap that it uses to pull down the prism3 firmware from the host.

As mentioned winupdate allows you to program a new firmware and if you follow the instructions on that site it should allow you to download a real firmware image to the card.

well, i'll see how to flash it, i have a thinkpad x32 with CF slot but running gentoo :/ i'll try to run [WinPE] liveCD if its not working with the update software i'll enjoy eBay to do some shopping

but there is something similare here to other card that supported by openBSD and it has the same vendor ID 0x0010 the IO-DATA WN-B11/CFZ, almost identical to the planex card prism3 and no firmware where is the PLANEX GW-CF11X has Primary Firmware v1.1.2 and Station v1.8.2.

ah yes, I see the ELSA vendor tag in the I-O Data section now. It is more obvious how the card is being recognised now.

Ok, i have searched all around and i couldnt find the STA (secondary) firmware for this card, it's NCID is 0x801d, what i have found i should use a firmware like this sm10804.hex or any smxxxx.hex firmware which i couldnt find. the primary one i have it (pm010102.hex).

The funny thing here the ( Senao NL-2511CF ) has the same NCID which means it's identical to GW-CF11X and it's supported in OpenBSD.

i was looking in openbsd for how this card been implemented the firmware or where should put GW-CF11X firmware in OpenBSD, so far no luck :/

No, my card is the Senao NL-2511CF, it originally had SF010800.HEX, I updated to SF010804.HEX.

Did you load the utility and simply check the firmware file name that the card was using?

under linux, it gives me error that the card dosen't have a firmware at all, i think i better try the windows software to see.

i tried to upgrade it with SF010800.HEX, it says it cant read the ioctl :/ also the RAM firmware that used for the linux to make it work can't be flashed ( it's a ram firmware not a flash one).

i'll see how to get windows to do this :/ i may try to install windows on External HD.

Heh, I'm not running Linux on anything any more.. apart from an old uncharged SL-C860 with a broken OZ install.

I will reflash that and let give it a try on that.

Any particular Linux variant? OZ GPE 3.5.4.1 runnign 2.6 Kernel shows this card as eth0 and the device doesn't support the IOCTLs necessary for hostap_diag (although you can run iwconfig so it does see it as a wireless card).

I have the same card working on linux (pdaxrom) with some pri/slave firmware. I have upload them in the forum with "wifi-net.rar.txt" (it may be with _ )
