In another thread someone asked the difference between Hentages and OZ and the reply was "extra packages and kernel tweaks" so I was wondering if the latest Hentages for spitz includes the pxa270 overlay or cpu freq. scale patches?

Do these twesk tend to make Cacko nice & fast?

Hentges uses the normal OZ kernel. But since the OZ kernel source is updated more often than OZ releases new images for everyone to download, the hentges kernel is usually newer than the OZ one which causes problems when a user tries to use an "old" OZ kernel with a "new" hentges rootfs.

OIAW: As soon as OZ gets these patches, hentges will have them but not before.

Quite trivial at compile time actually (thanks to OE)

Great stuff!  I remember using opie & gpe at same time under 3.5.2 hentges & loved it.

Strangely, in the second testing of akita tslib.sh the touchscreen works. Mouse pointer still disappears when matchbox is loaded. It does not stay for a new user, either. During the brief moments when the pointer is visible at gpe-login screen, the mouse is working properly now though (directions are no longer reversed as during my first testing).

Also, add one more vote for the Hentges spitz maxi-ROM    :-D

This is rather difficult to debug w/o access to the the machine in question. Cursor handling depends on a few packages: xserver-common which contains /etc/X11/Xserver to launch Xfbdev with the correct parameters, udev to detect an input device such as a mouse and tslib.sh which tells Xfbdev / Xserver which input device to use as pointer. Also udev creates a temporary file somwhere in /var which is detected by a script in /etc/X11/Xinit.d or Xsession.d to hide or show the mouse pointer.

I suggest we meet in IRC (#openzaurus at freenode) around the time you made this posting

I've been playing with the maxi image right now and noticed the following:

- It's going to be huge, > 140Mb in size uncompressed
- Even compressed as jffs2 it is larger than the flash root-partition of any Z (61Mb)
- Due to a bug in OE there can only be one working SDL system, Opie or GPE

Ahh, so I'll have to install the gpe image & then do some clever soflinking to get opie working afterwards.

See this excerpt of a chat I just had with hrw on this:

Quote
16:39:10] <hrw> zedkatuf: we do not have libsdl which will handle qtopia and x11 in same binary
[16:39:22] <hrw> so we have libsdl-qpe and libsdl-x11 targets
[16:40:24] <zedkatuf> ok, so I'd need both then to get gpe & opie working?
[16:40:51] <hrw> they cannot be installed in same time
[16:41:57] <zedkatuf> ahh...unless I create a shell script which relinks the libs accordingly...?
[16:42:23] <hrw> maybe
[16:42:39] <hrw> now both packages install same files
[16:43:25] <zedkatuf> so does that cause a problem..?
[16:44:26] <zedkatuf> Is there somewhere which can tell me which binaries are started up with opie & gpe & then I could write a shell script accordingly perhaps
[16:44:32] <hrw> one contain libsdl-1.2.so and second contain libsdl-1.2.so
[16:44:40] <hrw> you can have only one of them installed
[16:44:49] <hrw> but I do not find it as a problem
[16:45:32] <zedkatuf> well, I could rename one libsdl-1.2.so.gpe & other .opie & then softlink libsdl-1.2.so to wither according to whether or not I was running gpe or opie....
[16:46:16] <hrw> do you really run games so often? I would rather stick with one gui enviroment
[16:46:30] <zedkatuf> it's not so much games....
[16:46:32] <hrw> but now I go home - time to flash tosa to oz 3.5.4
[16:46:37] <zedkatuf> anyway, thanks for your help
[16:46:40] <zedkatuf> ok, bfn
[16:46:53] <hrw> np

Big is good isn't it?  The "Spitz" family Z's don't use the internal flash for the operating system (some think this is a disadvantage on the 3100/3200). That leaves a 4-6 GB microdrive which can easily be partitioned to accommodate a maxi image.

What programs in Hentges Opie and GPE roms currently use SDL? If I get a vote, I would suggest going with gpe-sdl since I don't think the programs I would use from opie require SDL.

Mostly games and mplayer. I think I'll use GPE SDL, yeah.

Coredump,
I cannot IRC tonight; must pack for vacation for a week. I may be on sometime during vacation, as the trip is mostly for my fiance to meet with friends.
I should do another round of testing, anyways. I may have done something wrong before, as my Linux knowledge is just enough for me to be dangerous (to myself)

Also, I do not believe most spitz owners would be concerned with the size of the maxi-image. 140+ MB is but a small dent in our storage space

Heres another problem with a maxi-typ image: You won't be able to use auto-suspend / display blanking in GPE at all since the deamon used for this triggers its timeouts while you are in opie.
