I still have a minor problem with a number of applications such as gnumeric and qpdf reporting that No D-Bus daemon is running.
I have checked the all the relevant packages are loaded
dbus-1
gnome-vfs-dbus
gconf-dbus
There is a DBUS service defined /usr/share/dbus-1/services/gconf.service
[D-BUS Service]
Names=org.gnome.GConf;
Exec=/usr/libexec/gconfd-2
Has anyone seen this before or know how to resolve
Thanks

I get the same problem with qpdf on GPE and OZ 3.4.5.1 with my sl-c3100.
