An Oz/qpe Install Question
« on: August 08, 2006, 03:11:02 pm »
It has been a veeery long time since I tried OZ and it looks like many improvements have been made.  Looking at the install instructions here:

http://wiki.openzaurus.org/C7x0/Install

The first step states "Ensure that your c7x0 machine has a standard flash partitioning (e.g. as it was originally), flashing may fail if this is not the case. ".  So, If I'm understanding this correctly if you have used any other ROM, since most all of them repartition, you have to do a NAND restore of the Sharp image before installing OZ.  I don't remember this with the old versions of OZ and I'm surprised to see it with the current version of OZ.  Please tell me this is not the case.

Thanks!

OZ has always only supported the standard flash partitioning. If you were advanced enough to mess with the partitioning, we expect you to be advanced enough to change it back.

That seems like a self inflicted barrier to OZ that will do nothing but hurt its use.  Any plans to add a repartitioning option to the OZ installation process?  Is there some compelling reason to not have such a feature or is this just something that never made the threshold to implement?

Thank you

why would this be an issue on a 3x00?  It is, I tried with a non-standard partition and strange little problems started creeping in...but it seems like it should make no difference as the flash is barely used, anyway.

as to the flash issue being a barrier, it looks like both oz and pdaxrom are moving far from the original sharp config. Probably this has more to do with restrictions imposed by sharp's design rather than random orneriness of unaffiliated development teams.

you can upgrade your brain to version 0.2 advanced edition

seriously, the easiest way is to do a nand restore using the original sharp rom but if you want to do it the hard way, then use fdisk (but you will still need to find the original partition info which you can extract from the nand after you have restored it.)
