Just curious - has anyone got word from him that he\'s ready to ship anything? I e-mailed him yesterday morning to go ahead with my order if he can do it right away. 24 hours later, no response. Guess he\'s not at 100% yet? But I hope he\'s not doing another disappearing act....

When I emailed him yesterday regarding a shipping date, he told me he will ship my order today(Saturday), or Monday at the latest.

I guess he has a lot to catch up on.

I will check back with him on Monday to confirm whether it has been shipped.

No update from him yet - I requested him to send me an e-mail when my order has shipped.

Will send another e-mail at the end of bussiness today if no update recieved.

Whit, any news on the shipping of your order?

Hmmmm... Friday his feedback was brilliant and now AGAIN nothing! He said he would ship the package Saturday or Monday.

none of my e-mail queries to get a confirmation for shipment was responded to(from Sunday). I want to get the tracking number to track my package.

I am very disappointed. How difficult is it to just reply and confirm the shipment and tracking number? I see his eBay shop is updated with all new entries etc. Is it not more important to keep the customers that you have already dealt with happy for \"word-of-mouth\" marketing like on ZUG? This is very valuable exposure.

Whit, you\'re lucky, your shipment has actually been confirmed - I still don\'t know what\'s happening with mine. Maybe it\'s shipped, maybe he forgot about my order, who knows?

I know he has been sick and I can understand the delay and don\'t hold it against him - this could happen to anybody. But not sending a quick e-mail to just confirm a shipping date and the tracking number is very unprofessional, especially if your customer has been waiting 2 weeks already.

OMICRON - do you have any reliable and consistant contact with \"K\"? If so, please ask him to at least just confirm shipment details with orders placed with him before his absence.

Here\'s hoping this story still has a happy ending......

I do have a tracking number from him now - along with an excuse that Japan had a bad routing day or something that screwed up all sorts of e-mail. Haven\'t looked for independent news on that.

There was a newspaper article today about how doctors who communicate well get the most respect back from their patients - independently of whether they\'re actually very good doctors in terms of diagnosis and so on. And doctors who are technically good but communicate badly tend to have patients taking them to court.

Likewise here, taking a half-minute to send a brief e-mail whenever there\'s a reason to explain where the process is can do a lot to keep the world happy with you. In this case it looks like more than half K\'s customers check in here. I\'m sure other\'s are nearly as tired of this saga as we are ... but those scanning the whole board will see ranked options like (for a US buyer):

1. Buy from that shop with the fluxuating price by credit card, and do the conversion yourself. (around $685 shipped)
2. Buy from K for a bit more and get a partially converted unit plus screen shield, but with uncertain delivery date. (around $712 shipped)
3. Buy from Japan-Direct.com for a bit more than that and get some sort of translated manual. (around $752 shipped)
4. Pay a lot to Dynamism.com for a converted unit delivered domestically. (around $850 plus shipping)
5. Plan a trip to Japan. (priceless)

Shirtpocket.co.uk should be in there for non-US (so I can\'t remember where they rank by price and features). Anyhow, if K can refurbish his rep he should be a solid player. And there don\'t seem to be so many here who\'ve tried Japan-Direct to establish its rep. The conversion and screen guard are worth the diff between the shop and K, except the shop takes plastic ... and we\'ve learned we would have felt a lot better through this if we\'d been in that position. Sigh. I still like to see the smallest retailer win, else being balanced.

I totally agree with your statements regarding communication.

I must say that if it was not for K\'s disappearance for 1.5 to 2 weeks, I would be very impressed with his communication(will update once the product arives etc.). I guess I\'ll chalk this experience up to bad luck on K\'s side. If the claim regarding nationwide networks being down etc. is true, then it really was a bad run of luck on K\'s side.

I would consider buying from him in future, but I would then discuss with him up-front to have somebody back up his bussiness if anything happens to him again. Even if it is only somebody logging into his hotmail account and informing all his customers that he is sick. If I knew the reason for him not communicating, it would have eased my concern - coming nicely back to your doctor analogy above.

Anyway, the new toy is on it\'s way - now to see if Customs will take it \"hostage\"

Will you let me know when your package arrives? I will do the same.

Just received my Zaurus C860 this lunchtime :-) It was a nice surprise as I\'d only sent off an e-mail this morning asking about shipping info. Everything\'s fine - the battery\'s even charged(!) which lets me play for a bit until I get a converter for UK mains (230V), or more probably one of those clever combined usb sync/charger gizmos. Hopefully the rest of you will be receiving your\'s soon!

Just sent a message that I\'ve received my C860.... Well I\'m now sending this FROM IT! I can\'t believe how quick it was to set up and it recognised my old DCF650W 802.11 card immediately and now connected to home wLAN.... :-)

How big is the box that it arrived in? Will it fit the descriptin of \"Small Parcel\" or not? I know, that\'s a bit of a subjective question - a nice digital pic of the box next to something familiar would be great

It has arrived! The Japanese post office tracking site still doesn\'t show it beyond it\'s flight yesterday, but it\'s here, it\'s cute, and there\'s even a spare screen protector thrown in. Won\'t have time to explore it before the weekend though.

I\'d say definitely of \"small parcel\" appearance.

Sorry I haven\'t got a digital camera to hand - the rechargeable battery\'s given up the ghost...; but I\'d agree with whit that it looks like a small parcel to me. To be precise it\'s 23x17x10cm...

Got all the decisions to make now though but I\'m veering towards the pdaxrom and CF storage - my wifi CF draws far too much power anyway, I just wish the SD IO stuff was supported and we could use that nice bluetooth/memory combined SD card....

Thanks for the info on the parcel size, even though it was a bit of a daft question . Hope the small size makes customs look the other way and not charge me on it

The tracking site also shows mine\'s flight is today(although if it is a direct flight to South Africa or first via Europe, no one will know )

Holding thumbs for tomorrow or Saturday.

Guess we\'ll owe \"K\" a big thank-you after all - at least it was one of the cheapest options although we had to wait a while.

K is indeed back !!

I recieved a confirmation mail with EMS shipping nr and it\'s supposed to be on a plane now (june 3).
being shipped to belgium will keep you posted.

edited : changed plain to plane, hope that makes a bit more sense
