Is anyone working on sync for Mac OS X?
« on: September 28, 2003, 09:10:06 pm »
I am thinking about getting a Zaurus (5500 most likely) and I am
wondering what work might have been done on Mac OS X
connectivity.  Any suggestions?

Yes, there\'s a Mac sync solution for the 5500.

Check out

Unfortunately, nothing yet for the new Z\'s like the C750/C760...

Get a Z.  I\'m a long time Mac user and I love my 5500.  Qtopia Desktop for OS X is marginally okay.

Check out my blog for more info on ROMs, sync methods, etc:

I have a 5500 and a C760...   The C760 is just too cool.  I put the new cacko rom and it, and it\'s really sweet.  It has built in samba; though not sure how to hook it up to the mac.

I just got a bluetooth adapter and successfully installed it. My bluetooth powerbook (17\") recognized the zaurus (though it too a couple tries... first it only gave me the mac address, but then I got it to actually say \"zaurus\" for device).  It connected with the link number (1234 by default).  But then it couldn\'t communicate with it.  Tells me \"device doesn\'t have the necessary services\". I was amazed I got that far.

Maybe somebody could look into this and get it working...

You just paired the devices, that\'s all.  Outside of getting a TCP/IP connection between them, there isn\'t much you can do with it.  Nothing user-friendly anyhow.

Unfortunately, unless Apple releases some iSync developer\'s documentation or Sharp gets serious about supporting syncing with OS X, I am not expecting a solution anytime soon.

HTH,

And there is a project to copy the Cocoa Environment of MacOS X onto the Zaurus which would eliminate syncing and replace it by a file sync/copy/network access (to .Mac?):
