Nand Vs. Flashing Scripts
« on: September 21, 2006, 01:42:44 pm »
Hello,

From my recent experience I've learned how easy it is to use a NAND restore to restore my system.
It makes me ask the question, why not post NAND images of pdaXrom, OZ GPE/Opie, Cacko? Wouldn't this make things easier?

My first guess is because the flashing scripts detect if your a knucklehead like me and are trying to flash your Zaurus with an image intended for a different model.

Please help me educate myself on why things are done the way they are.

because with a bad NAND restore, you can really bork your device. Not like a bad flash, which you can always recover from.

one OZ image is for c700/750/760/860/7500 - ONE instead of 5
one OZ image is for c3000/c3100/c3200
...

and to make NAND Restore you NEED device... to make OZ/pdaX/etc images you do not even need to know how machine looks (I never saw sl-7500 or cxx00 models)

NAND Restore way destroy /home/ too....

And I tend to keep /home between reflashes, which makes generating a nand-image a bit hard. And as hrw said, it is needles duplication.
