hmmm, that looks yummy... a modern replacement for the simpad, dontchathink?

I can't see why it wouldn't run linux, it's got a decent 64MB flash, 128MB ram. It's a bit heavy at over 1Kg!

My thoughts exactly and I keep getting a flash back to an article I read yonks ago that this thing works as a VGA monitor when docked to a PC, though the PDF doesnt mention it.

The Idea was you run apps off of your PC using this as a thin client or VGA output.  I can not say if its this model or not, but running Opie on it would be pretty cool.  And it does have built in WIFI..... (Got to take the wife to the shoe shop first so she cant complain when I buy one... ;0)

I have a Tatung Webpad on which I plan to install GPE. It is basically the same product as the Viewsonic, and you can get it on ebay for nothing.

Details: http://www.tatung.co.uk/tabpad/webpaddetail.asp

Some time ago I managed to install latest Windows CE (5.0) to add WPA support, but the touchscreen was not working (and I could not find any driver for it).

So I have to try and compile GPE for it, which shouldn't be very difficult as it is a x86 device and there are reports of running Slackware on it. (http://www.hpcfactor.com/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=4645&posts=7&mid=60833)

hmm, interesting.. the tatung website says that its internal flash is a CF card, which would make hacking it much simpler.

/me goes off to ebay!

This webpad was sold under different names. You may search for "tatung webpad" or "neta 985" or also "neta 980" (small differences), or other names I can't remember...

Indeed the system boots off a CF card, which makes hacking much more easier. I will start a wiki page soon about this here : [a href=\"http://www.geek-fr.com]http://www.geek-fr.com[/url]

If you buy one, let me know!

OE Linux on a SVGA screen would be quite handy. Would probably be really nice for kids in the house too.
Hope you guys make headway with this project.
