Says it will be available in 1Q 2007 for about USD350 and that it will be compatible with oz, angstrom and familiar packages.

2.8" display with VGA!! that's incredible!

"One goal is give back to people creating this revolution. If you're going to hack on it, I'll give you a discount -- or something cool."

I like that idea, write an application for it and get a bonus.

No, it will use the same package *format*, the packages itself won't be compatible. You can however use OE to build packages for the neo1973.

It will be a real nice gadget anyway!

The company has already build some linux based products.
Hopefully there 's more to come!!!
I really enjoyed the slideshow on linuxdevices.com

If the give price will persist, it is half the price of trolltechs Greenphone.
It should be possible to connect it to zaurus at least via USB. Perhaps some kind of USB network connection could be established easily.

So let's wait and see   .

Greets,

But that in itself is a step in the right direction, and a real coup for the OE team- congrats!

add a gsm/gprs adaptor or a 3G adaptor when available and it makes the flybook seem oversized and very overpriced!

128mb ram and 640x480 touchscreen? On an Open, Linux-based cellphone? Costs under $500 Canadian?

I think I'm in love!

They've done the smart thing and seperated out the closed modules and given them open, standard interfaces. (AT command set for the Radio, serial for the GPS)

So sorry, Treo650 - you're no longer required. I will be picking one of these up as soon as possible.

What more do you want than an affordable, hackable and open phone running our favorite OS?

Rumor has it that its OpenEmbedded support will be quite good from the get-go

How about a keypad? I don't buy this:

"Typical of Chinese phone designs, the Neo1973 sports a touchscreen, rather than a keypad"

as I don't recall seeing any Chinese phone designs which solely uses a touchscreen.

I'll wait for the BT/Wifi/3G version.

Same here, I need BT for handsfree, etc.

WiFi might be nice too, automatic GSM/voip switching.

Looks cool
