Pdaxrom For C3000 (based On Beta1/beta3)
« Reply #135 on: December 12, 2006, 03:21:20 pm »
Two more apps to add to the wishlist for inclusion in pdaXii13 full or custom are

gnomebaker - GNOME CD and DVD burning app that formed the basis of NeroLinux

goobox - very easy GNOME OGG/MP3/FLAC/WAV CD ripper

Any idea when we can expect build4 Meanie?

Thanks!

I bought my dad one of those roll-up, flexible USB keyboards for his Z for xmas. It works fine with the us keyboard map but the British English keyboard map just produces nonsense characters. Did the British USB keyboard map get replaced/fixed in build5 as we're back to running build4 again now? Anyone know where I can get a working UK keymap?

EDIT

I've got it working now but uploading to OESF is still broke. I've e-mailed my UK xmodmap to Meanie for inclusion in the next release and I can e-mail it to anyone who wants it

Menaie:

I'm sure I remember reading on here that vlc was the only choice for playing back audio streams under pdaX and that's why I requested its inclusion into pdaXii13. Maybe its just because the vlc in build 5 was an old version but I found the sound to be choppy and I didn't manage to get perfect 'reception' (without the slight drop outs it suffers from).

Well it turns out that info (about shoutcast players) was incorrect and streamtuner works perfectly well under pdaX and unlike vlc you can record streams. This is what I wanted vlc included for so I'd like to see it replaced by streamtuner and streamripper in the next build.

Another thing I'd like to see in the next build is ipkg.conf using either your beta3 feed (what is the address?) or using

http://zaurus.spy.org/feeds/cacko/pdaXrom/1.1.0/beta3/feed

z.spy.org is certainly more reliable than the official feeds

I hope the next build has xscreensaver (and maybe the light+power one too) disabled by default- is this the case in 5.1? I don't know how it would work out having two different screensaver apps enabled and I think this is why we were having problems.

Did you get my e-mail with the UK .xmodmap? Did this make it into 5.1 or will it be included in the next one? I'll upgrade when you have the gpe alarm working as I'm quite happy with build 4 apart from the fact that xmms likes to launch itself randomly- whats causing this? Is there an xmms shortcut key?

pdaXii13 5.1 on c3000 users:

How is it? Is it stable? Does it fix build 5's problems?

EDIT

I said streamtuner works pefectly well but as I've already said in the other thread on this topic it only works with the Xiph channels for me but not Shoutcast or Live365. Still, it works better than vlc as a streaming app and there is supposed to be a patch to fix this problem.

Just to be clear, streamtuner (and/or streamripper) don't stream anything. Streamtuner is just a gui front end that displays the stream listings and then passes off urls/uris to the streaming engine. Mplayer (by default) is doing the streaming behind streamtuner and with the right mplayer command line, you can stream without streamtuner (for pls 'rxvt -e mplayer -playlist' and m3u 'rxvt -e mplayer'). Don't get me wrong, I am a big fan of st/sr, but including those without mplayer does zero. With the right command line options, I imagine that vlc also works well and is probably more versatile than mplayer.

I'm fully aware of that- st/sr makes a better choice over vlc because

1- It uses mplayer and pdaXii13 already comes with mplayer

2 ST only needs 300k of disk space compared to 3MB or whatever for vlc

3 ST works without slight break-ups in the audio stream- if anyone knows how to fix this under vlc then let us know

4 You can record under ST/SR (can you do this under vlc? I couldn't see such an option)

I know vlc is a general purpose media player but its unneccessary when we already have xmms and gmplayer and although I didn't test its movie playback functionality on the Z I'd bet its not as good as mplayer as I think thats the only movie player that supports bvdd but I could be wrong.

OK. Not trying to make anybody mad, just didn't seem like an apples to apples comparison. You outline a good comparison.

Wow ... reading through the pages is quite a treat! Happy New Year everyone ...

Now for the question:

I know pdaXii13 is meant for the c3000, but is there a variant or built for the c1000? I got a 4gb sd card and am currently running cacko 1.23 full on my c1000. Can I somehow install pdaXii13 on it? Would be really great if it does ... I can't wait to migrate over!

Unfortunately pdaXii13 build 5.1 won't even install for me

It gets as far as saying 'C3000 detected' and then it says something like

Errror on line 734 of updater.sh , unexpected 'fi', expecting 'done'

So I tried deleting updater.sh and  redownloaded it and tried again but I just got the same error before the Z reboots itself
