Pdaxrom For C3000 (based On Beta1/beta3)
« Reply #315 on: May 29, 2007, 05:06:27 pm »
There is one of 2 things that seem to be wrong.
1. The file you downloaded is not complete, is corrupt, or
2. You haven't read all the documentation for the C3000
There are files specifically designed for the C3000's small flash. I don't have a C3000, so I cannot go into detail here.
Look on the page I linked, there are these files:
---------------------------
updater/flash utility for C3000

Use Akita updater/flash for C3100/C3200

    *      updater.sh (20KB) - v0.26
    *      updater-tools.bin (1.2MB) - build 15
---------------------------
kernel and updated bootloader for C3000

These are absolutely for C3000 only

    *      initrd.bin (2.5MB) - 0.5a
    *      zImage-2.4.20.bin (1.1MB) - 2.4.20
---------------------------
Also make sure you have read all the documentation on meanie's page.
http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/pdaxii13.html

EDIT:
I don't mean to sound harsh, but the SL-C3000 is completely "different" from many models in regard to flashing various ROMs, because it has such a tiny "Flash" memory area.

Place the following files on a CF card, (not a SD card because the installer may change the SD card driver)
updater.sh
updater-tools.bin
initrd.bin
zImage-2.4.20.bin
hdimage-full.tgz

Then go into the maintenance menu. This is quoted from meanie's page.
http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/pdaxii13.html
Quote
You need to do the following to get into the Maintenance Menu which is where you can update/install pdaXii13 from:

    * Unplug everything from your Zaurus, ie power, cards, etc...
    * Press the reset button (unlock the battery cover and press the little reset button)
    * Put battery lid back on and lock the battery compartment
    * Press and hold the OK key while pressing the On/Off button at the front
    * You are now in the Maintenance Menu

    * Insert CF or SD (which ever has the install files)
    * Plug in the power
    * Choose Option 4 (Update in "Japanese") from the Maintenance Menu
    * Select your installation source, choose CF or SD
    * Confirm your selection (choose option on the left)

In the pdaXii13 updater menu choose Option 2 to repartition your Zaurus if required (depends on your current partition layout). You will need to reboot your Zaurus once you have repartitioned it and then repeat the above steps to get into the Maintenance Menu again and then into the pdaXii13 updater menu.

From the pdaXii13 updater menu, choose Option 3 "Install kernel and bootloader" to flash your C3000 with a new kernel and boot loader image.

Once the installation has finished, you will need to extract the hdimage.tgz (or one of its variants) onto the MicroDrive. Choose Option 4 for that and wait a while until it formats your first partition as ext3 and extracts the content of the tgz file onto the first partition of your MicroDrive.

Then choose Option 6 to reboot and pdaXii13 should be installed and boot into X windows. OpenBox will be the default X window manager just like in the default pdaXrom beta3. During your first boot, your SSL private and public keys will be generated which will take a while.

If you have used the recommended partition scheme or used your own custom partition layout, then you need to format those remaining partitions. During the initial boot, you will also be given a choice to format your second and third partition if you have them. The second partition will be formatted as swap while the third partition will be formatted as FAT.
for the C3000 in the above quote, hdimage.tgz is the same as hdimage-full.tgz

Hi,

Anyone else has a problem with the m5sum's?

Code: [Select]
# md5sum -c checksum.txt
updater.sh: FAILED
updater-tools.bin: FAILED
initrd.bin: OK
zImage-2.4.20.bin: OK
hdimage-full.tgz: OK
md5sum: WARNING: 2 of 5 computed checksums did NOT match

I tried to download update.sh and updater-tools.bin various times with different tools (wget, links, lftp etc.) but md5sum still fails.

Same there?

Meanie,

Thank you for all your work. Which one is the "stable" release? 5.2 still?

I hope that with 5.4.6 xfce will be working. I've installed it from feed but only icewm is working.
I have some problems with the oficial pdaxii13 feed - there is an error about unary operator and I cannot install some files : lgeneral, some xfce4 plugins.

build 5.4.6 has been moved to the stable release.
also updated the release notes convention.

The following indicators are used in the release notes to show whether a bug fix or feature can be applied by patching or upgrading.

    * ( - included in pdaXii13 base and full
    * (f) - included in pdaXii13 full only
    * (p) - can be patched/updated via pdaXii13-custom.tgz
    * (i) - install/upgrade of new or existing package required

This means from now on, you can easily tell if a new feature has been added to the full edition only or is also part of the base edition (the akita edition is the base edition)
You can also easily tell if you can patch/update to get the new feature/fix or you need to reflash...

additionally, a new unstable feed will be added (http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/feed/beta3/unstable) which will contain experimental/untested packages. the e17 packages will also be added into this feed.
to install e17 on pdaXii13 simply run

ipkg install e17-pdaxii13

also make sure you have updated to the latest xsession package
SL-C3000 - pdaXii13 build5.4.9 (based on pdaXrom beta3) / SL-C3100 - Sharp ROM 1.02 JP (heavily customised)
