Best Uk Internet And Phone Provider
« on: November 26, 2006, 09:26:19 am »
At the moment I'm a subscriber of Onetel who provide both ADSL broadband (2Mb) and a phone line with free national calls at any hour (except to mobiles) for 30 pound/month. This price doesn't include BT line rental at 11 a month.

The contract is about to expire so I'm looking round to see if there are any better deals. Anybody know of a provider offering a similar but better/cheaper package?

TalkTalk do 8Meg broadband (40Gb/month cap) and the same kind of phone deal - free local/national calls all day long for ~£19.99/month (with no BT line rental, they take over your line rental and it's included in the ~£19.99).

I'm waiting for them to hook my broadband up at the moment and will let you know whether it's all it's cracked up to be once it's up and running.

I've heard bad stories about talktalk and their not-so-free free service.

if you're in a telecomplus LLU area you can get a very good deal on Utility Warehouse's "broadcall" service which gives excellent broadband *and* phonecall bundle. If you also take your gas and electricity from them, you can get free phone calls. They also do some respectable deals on mobile phone tariffs (they use T-mobile as a carrier). Take a peek at
https://www.utilitywarehouse.co.uk/store/br...af?exref=052121

there's an LLU checker on those pages.

--edit-- the deal is good because being LLU you're not paying BT for line rental, as UW manage your line via the BT exchange and thus can make things very cheap.

Honesty note: I've been a happy customer for over a year, and I get a referral by telling people how happy I am!

I've heard about delays in getting the broadband working, but not about "not-so-free" issues. What in particular?

if you actually work out how much the total costs of using their service it's not really a free deal.
