What Happened In Here?
« on: December 06, 2006, 02:00:41 pm »
Used to be a lot more lively in here, I don't know if evrybody has been xmas shopping or what. I'm looking at some down time over the next week, and I thought it be a good time to learn a few new tricks for my Z. It's just not much is going on than a few posts on programming, nothing from the new users, and just makes me wonder where is everybody?

I guess not many new users left - all the previously new ones have become old pro's     and no new users anymore, what with no new models being released for some time now.

But there are stiil some new trics of the trade (I still am learning) in the other threads too - much slower than in the golden days...
New no more-C1000 / 5000D (sold my 6000 and 750) | Cacko ROM 1.23 on C1000 | 256 MB CF | 2GB PNY SD card | Socket Networker WiFi CF Card | USB Host cable from StreamlineCPUS | Mini Microphone (for voice recording) |

There does seen to be a few new faces in the last week or two that have recently bought a Zaurus. It's kinda exciting!
Christmas is right around the corner too.  Who know what St. Nick will bring us good boys and girls!

Keep in mind the admins just granted new users to join without verification now.  I do see some new users now however some spam here and there.  The moderators are keeping down the spam though.

I know the old verification process kept a lot of people out of the forums for a while, I hope the wait hasn't steered them away. Really, it's the members that keep a group like us alive.

In additon to the incresed spam, I have seen a number of members selling thier recently-purchased Zaurus', wondering if they are leaving the Z platform and why? After a lot of trial and error, I finally settled on getting into the Z platform with not ever returning to anything that runs Symbian, Palm OS, or Windows Mobile. I know this is slightly off-topic, but is Sharp discontiuing the Zaurus line? I hope not, I love my little Z!!!

Also, some of the ones you are seeing for sale are from members who have multiphe Zs and they are just right sizing their collection.  I started hanging out here at the end of January so, I couldn't tell you if the traffic volume has slowed until we reach next month.
I think I'm coming down with what kahm's got!  I now have 3 Zaurii in house!  ;)
Current: Zaurus SL-C3200 -  Bobby (Configuring pdaXii13 Akita with Full 5.4.9 upgrade running IceWM)
Zaurus SL-C1000 - Hachiko (Configuring Cacko 1.23 with evilJazz's new kernel)
Zaurus SL-C860 - Fett (Customized Cacko 1.23 with handmade Boba Fett Theme)

I imagine that some of the newer users may be a bit frustrated by the low volume. I have put a number of basic questions up that I am pretty sure folks can answer, but I am not getting replies. For the prices we pay for these little gems, it is frustrating to not be able to get them fully functional. I have used Cacko on my last two Z's. I am pretty pleased except with the browser. Netfront is a great piece of software, but unfortunately doesn't support some of the websites I use. I use FF (actually Swiftfox) on my Linux boxes and would like to get it running with something better than sundial speed on my 3200. It seems that the bulk of the traffic comes from pdaXrom, so I think I am going to give that a try. I think it may be a bit more straightforward for a Linux user and I like the attitude of the development team as they seem to be a bit more user friendly/involved than some others. Hopefully many good girls and boys will get Zauri for Christmas the the traffic will pick up.

Sometimes I see questions to basic things and don't answer them cause you could find them relatively easy by doing a search..... I guess sometimes it's how you ask and telling people what you did to try to find the answer.  I know sometimes I would ask a question and not get a response    but that's why I use the term "bump".....

Also, all of this spam is stupid! I don't need to see that kind of stuff on this site, isn't it against the forum rules?
