Wanted: C7xx, possible trade with a Clie UX-50

I\'m looking to switch to a Zaurus.  I currently own a Clie UX-50 with a 128MB Memory Stick and some software (HanDBase, Vault).  I would be willing to set up a trade for an equivalent Zaurus (needs to be a C7xx or C8xx).  Otherwise, I\'m looking for someone willing to sell a reasonably priced C7xx... perferably a C700, but I\'d consider buying any of the clamshell Zaurii.

I wish I had one I love the UX-50... All I have is the SL-5500 if you would take that but I wont hold my breth... anyway I had to say I love thos and wich I had one.. Ill look around for you...

I was able to pick up a C750.  Thanks anyway.  Now I just need to get rid of this darn part-Japanese ROM and get my bluetooth card.  Then I can put that UX-50 up on eBay.

Well, the UX-50 I have is in MINT condition.  The only noticable wear is on the rubber pads on the bottom where some black rubbed off from my leather jacket.  I have all the original pieces that came with the unit (USB sync cable, manuals, CD-ROM, leather case, etc.).  And, I have a Lexar 128MB Memory Stick (not Pro or MagicGate, just the regular kind) I\'m throwing in.  My hope is to get $500US for it.

I get my bluetooth card on Monday and hopefully a 128MB CF card.  Then I can start configuring my C750 to see if it\'ll work for what I need it to do.  Little concerned about the latest Cacko Qtopia ROM having problems with bluetooth cards... we\'ll see if they patch it soon.  I\'d really hate to have to manually mess with my configs everytime I want to use bluetooth!

Too bad you got the C750.  I have a C760 and Ambicom bluetooth card (supported by bluez) I would have traded.

mentat_bashar:  Well, I would definitely not trade a UX-50 for a SL-5500.  While I definitely like running Linux as opposed to PalmOS5, there\'s no comparison in regards to hardware.  In fact, I prefer the UX-50 to the C750 hardware-wise... with the exception of the screen size and brightness (although the Clie screen is significantly sharper).  As I found out tonight, the Z is completely useless in the dark if you wish to use the keyboard.  The UX-50 has a beautiful, backlit keyboard.

LordDavon, that is too bad that I got that C750 so soon.  I definitely would\'ve swapped for the C760+extras.   Are you upgrading to a C860 or just looking to switch to a Clie?

What problems are you talking about? This ROM is should have bluetooth working out of the box, without any config file editing...

Hmmm... that wasn\'t the impression I got when reading the thread under Sharp ROMs entitled \"Socket CF Bluetooth Rev 2.5G\".  I see that you did post that there\'d be a fix in the next ROM, however, as of the last post it sounded like people had to mess around with configs, manually start and stop BT, and the E drivers weren\'t working for some.  I guess I\'ll find out tomorrow when my Socket CF Bluetooth card arrives.

I have a couple of C700\'s, a C760 and a C860 already.  I would have done the swap just to have something new to hack on.  Possibly place a Linux distro on it.

I spent several hours looking for a Linux distro for the Clie and didn\'t find a thing.  Sony is so closed with their architecture that I think it\'d be impossible to put Linux on a Clie.  Their UX line has a new processor that I\'m not sure is ARM compliant (nothing in the documentation on it... they don\'t even post a clock speed, although tech supp says it\'s 300MHz).

What would be worth doing is waiting for Cobalt (PalmOS 6) to come out and see if that OS will support a shell and other such things.  But, it still looks like PalmOS 6 is using the same old VFS, so a shell probably wouldn\'t be of much use.

What\'s great about the UX-50 is that if you have a BT phone, you can use it to IM.  The keyboard is really nice... in fact it\'s much better than the Z\'s (despite having fewer keys).  The keyboard has a really nice backlit and the board is wavy, so it\'s a little easier to keep your fingers on it.  And with WiFi and BT built-in, you don\'t have a wireless antennae sticking into your hand while typing.

If you could come up with a Linux distro for the Clie (esp one that boots off a Memory Stick) that would be awesome.  I just think that with the closed architecture, it\'d be nearly impossible to create drivers for all the pieces of the handheld and possibly even compile for the architecture.  Best of luck, though!
