Rogue, Angband, Nethack/slash'em And The Variants
« on: December 09, 2006, 02:55:13 am »
Have you ever played/Do you want to play the rougelike/nethack games -- the kings of RPG ever -- on Zaurus?

How about a dedicated thread to these games?

I don't really want to make it yet another hacker/developer thread, but instead I wonder if it would be nice for us to:

1) Gather links to resources, reviews, and perhaps even spoilers2) Announce new Zaurus packages
3) Share gaming experience
4) Discuss runtime and compilation issues
5) Request packages and make a wishlist

So what do you think?

Current builds for Zaurus
AFAIK there are several builds available for the Zaurus:

Sharp/Cacko:
-- qpe-nethack and qpe-nethack sounds (Thanks for the pointers, bam!)
-- Nethack-console (plain vanilla ACSII text display)  also there are some discussions in the forum

Opie:
-- Nethack (w/ 2D tileset) and Nethack-Sounds

pdaXrom:
-- Angband 3.0.5 (w/o graphical tiles) found in an old cacko pdaxrom feed.
-- My recent builds of Angband 3.0.6, and the variants Xangband 1.1.0 and Hengband 1.6.2
-- Desertrat's build of Zangband (a variant of Angband 2.7.4c) and mangband (binary only; remove the .txt extension and drop it to the angband bin directory) (Thanks, Antikx)
-- Jabbath's nethack build (the latest 3.4.3)
-- NetHackQT 3.4.3 (w/o graphical tiles) found in an old cacko pdaxrom feed.
-- My build of glhack (also based on nethack 3.4.3, w/ 2D and semi-3D ISO tileset)  (Dammit ... this game has started to drain away my productivity... or perhaps I should make it my travel companion...)
-- My build of the latest Slash'EM CVS (as of 061212).

So here is my little package request (for pdaXrom or using X11/GTK interfaces):

1) Angband 3.0.6 + graphical tileset
2) Dungeon Crawl + japanese tileset w/ 640x480 display
3) Any variants of Slash'em

It would be nice if someone can offer their skills to compile these cool games.

Any chance of [re] compiling nethack for the current release of Opie/OZ (3.5.4.x)? I'm running 3.5.4.2-rc2 on my SL6000, and I really do miss nethack.

zdevil: glhack is so great in pdaxrom, it's bought me back to the old classic again. Not tried the 3d tileset as yet, and it doesn't seem to run unless I am root (launching "glhack") but I've just noticed you mention a pre-tweaked script so I'll check for that when I have a sec.

thanks for building this gem for us all

Good news!

I've just succeeded in building the latest source of Slash'em (using SDL) for pdaXrom!  I will test it for a while and post it in the forum VERY soon.

Just a sidenote: i have got around a dozen funny games on the list and am done about half of them. Will post them soon also as a humble X-max contribution. Stay tuned.

Well, a good game may also improve productivity in a way, so to speak ...
The "root" thingy, i guess, is that I modified the Makefile to match the usual login user of the system, i.e. "root" under pdaXrom.

Hi.
I builded Angband 3.0.6 for OpenZaurus/GPE.

Do you use this bainary?

And I builded Dungeon Crawl with jp tileset(patching jp code).
But crawl don't run.(segment fault).

Angband 3.0.6:
I also built it, but the build suffers from two things: 1) oversized display (larger than 640x480 and i cannot find ways to size it down); 2) cannot access the tileset (just launched with the plain TTY) - so how and where do you put the tileset (the build is just one big binary)? Thanks!

(Forgot to say: I am using pdaXrom)

Dungeon Crawl:
Same error as yours. Run in a few seconds. Oversized display. Movement of my character will segfault.

Angband's pref file in HOME/.angband/Angband/x11-setting.prf.
Code: [Select]
FONT_0=7x13
TILE_WIDTH_0=8
TILE_HEIGHT_0=16
I think that the window fits VGA by this.
I put Tileset in "ANGBAND_INSTALL_PATH/lib/xtra/graf"(I made this dir by hand.)
And run angband "angband -g".

Thanks.
