State Of Current Pdaxrom
« on: December 30, 2006, 08:14:55 pm »
I've been out of the loop for a while,  sticking with beta 3.   Is now the time to try the newest version of pdaxrom?  I had too many problems with my first attempt, back when we first switched to uboot and the 2.6 kernel.  I had a SD card go belly up yesterday so if I'm going to switch, now is the time.

On my 3100, I find r121 to be much more usable than Beta 3. It runs a lot faster. There are a few minor issues with it, but it works quite well. If gou have a Cxx00 Zaurus, give it a shot. For the Cxx0, I don't think it's as big of a change.

The feeds have been moved to ibiblio. If you google 'pdaxrom install', you can pull it from googles cache (I just did). If you search these forums for posts by insearchof with keyword ibiblio, you should be able to find the links to the feeds. Good luck.

For the Cxx0, I don't think it's as big of a change.

Quite a few things got changed on Cxx0 since I last tryed:
my bluetooth card works
my wifi card works
u-boot can load root from MMC/SD/CF
it has gotten quite a bit more stable
most setup tools now actually work

[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

First installation - new bootloader (do this if you still have the old u-boot that only boots from internal flash)
1) Good idea make NAND backup before
2) Format CF or SD card (MMC not working for me) with FAT16
3) Extract bootloader and emergency files to card. There must be updater.pro, u-
boot.bin, emergenc.img
4) Extract rootfs and kernel files to this or another CF or SD card, there must
be: rootfs.img kernel.img autoboot.sh
5) Run diagnostic menu (D+M) and run NAND Flash Erase from Extra Menu.
6) Turn OFF your zaurus. Unplug power adapter, eject battery.
7) Insert SD or CF card with extarcted files (if you insert both CF and SD, upda
ting fails)
8) Press and hold "C" and "D" keys and plug power adapter (battery must be eject
ed!).
9) Green LED must light on for ~20 sec.
10) If both LEDs flashing, that mean bad CF or SD, or non FAT16.
11) When Green LED off, unplug power adaptor.

Bootup emergency system
1) Insert SD or CF card with pdaXrom
2) Press and hold OK button and plug power cable
3) Wait for 10 sec and leave OK button
4) Screen on and emergency system will booting
5) After booting, it will detect SD or CF card and run autoboot.sh script
6) Answer "y" to the question
7) After flashing, it will reboot and pdaXrom will booting - time for battery in
sert:)

I have a C3200 with beta3. Do you think is better to use r121? Is it worth the trouble?

Tnx...

I've found that the few bugs are worth the huge increase in speed. I don't know if Beta 3 is sluggish on all Cxx00s or just some, but for me it was painfully slow. I would suggest giving it a try, and if you turn back from bug XYZ, you'll still know what it's like. When I originally tried it, I thought that it was too buggy, but then I gave it another shot because Beta 3 was so slow and really liked it.

what aspect is faser?  I think video with overlay on beta3 is probably better imho. I tred the latest and wasn' terribly nappy, but I'm willing to be convinced.  do you mean the UI is snappier?

Yes. The UI is MUCH faster, at least on my C3100.
