How To Install Software Without Usb Cable?
« on: January 23, 2007, 02:40:44 pm »
Hi!
I finaly got my Zaurus C760 working!! Now I would like to get some software from this site: http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/ but the problem is, when I try to download file, konqueror doesn't offer me to download it, instead it opens it, so I get just tons of symbols displayed in the konqueror. I can't even get a different browser, like opera.
I ordered USB cable, but I will get it only after a week. Is there any way to download these files and install them or it can be only done by cable?

If I want to install for example E17 or different GUI, it installs just as regular software, or it has to do something with reinstalling everything on rom..?

and what do I need to do to install pdaXrom?

Sorry for the stupid questions, this is the first time I own a PDA, so it's all confusing for me!

Thanks!

First, the Z is more than a PDA.

If you want X11 apps, get pdaXrom. This includes different window managers.

To install it, go to the pdaXrom page and find the instructions for installing (NOT r121 instructions!!!). Download the Beta 1 files and install.

In Konqueror, you should be able to right click on an ipk and say save as. You have to do that in Dillo under pdaxrom sometimes.

If you have more questions concerning pdaXrom, search the forum. Most questions have been answered.

Hope this helps!

Oh, and you don't need a cable for installing new ROMs. Onla an SD or a CF card.

to install an IPK if you can't do it locally, do it on your desktop PC and save it to an SD card.

then on the Z start a console, become root with "su", find the file and "ipkg install xxx.ipk".

or, if you know the URL, on the Z do this:
   wget http://somehost/somedir/file.ipk
   ipkg install file.ipk
