What are / were the specific issues you experienced with beta3 on a C1000?

That's a lame excuse. When you find a bug. You should document it and try to fix it, rather than saying try something else.

I have r121 on bothe my c760 and c860 .... and I've only had 1 crash (after arguably dangerous use on /sys tree) and an odd behaviour after hours of play time on quake. On the whole I'm pretty happy with it .... appart some difficulties in getting some things right on the c860 ... and the missing usb-storage functionality.

In any case if pdaXrom is no go ... and same for the other distros ... drop me a PM I'm intrested in your c860 ;-) .

I don't even remember what the differences are between beta1 and beta3.  When I got my C1000 and decided on a pdaXrom, I chose beta3 based on what I had read about it.  Beta4 came out shortly afterward and I tried that, but went back to beta3 after a couple months.

The issue with accented characters in justreader isn't a missing font, is it?  I've been meaning to try justreader, but I haven't been reading many ebooks lately.

Actually I was using beta2 on my c860 instead of beta3. I found that the contrast keys didn't work in 3 , and at the time the developers had already moved on to beta4, so I went back. I haven't been able to flash r121 because if a couple of bad blocks (the last time I tried it anyway, several months ago), and I got turned off by the lack of NAND backup/restore capability in the 2.6 kernel ROMs. has anyone manged to work that out yet?

Personally I did never understand why eg. this "choice" argument has been using for refraining from joining efforts with OE and some rivalry had been set up instead.

Well said Oliver ... point to note though, the diff ROMs didn't just start off on day one, with each group deciding to have the different directions, forks etc. Each kinda started off due to different needs at different time. Having said that, I'm totally with you on joining efforts.

My take on choices is that choices are good only when it is among valid working options. If having the resources split results in numerous roms with each almost good enough, while joining resources results in only one or two roms with each running and 'perfect' with their own strengths, I'll choose the latter any day. Currently, we are kinda like the former.

What's preventing OZ/GPE from merging with PdaXrom or the other way around?
My feeling is that the OZ team is a step ahead on the kernel part while PdaXrom team does well on the user land.

Why Uboot v.s. Altboot?
Why PdaXrom soft float v.s. OZ soft float?
Why PdaXrom can't just borrow the OZ kernel and focus on the user land?
As the OZ developers are moving towards Angstrom, can't PdaXrom just take over/merge with OZ GPE 3.5.5? If so then we can have a single bug-tracking system and email list.

Is this true about NAND backup/restore capability?  I can understand that the normal Service and Diag menus available on D+M+reset and D+P+reset respectively are no longer available because I believe the uboot system has overwritten them in the first 7Mb of the NAND.  But at least on the C1000, you still have available the backup copies of these menus on Fn+D+M+reset and Fn+D+P+reset resp. and both of these contain the NAND backup and restore options.  Is it the case that (some part of?) these don't work?  I know for sure that NAND restore on the backup service menu works because I used this to recover from my attempt to use r121 and get back to beta1!  Is it that the backup options don't work? or produce unrestorable backups?
