No Sl6000 Display

When I turn on my 6000, the display is black. This happened after a week of low battery warnings even though I had it on the charger, and after I dropped it. I tried taking the battery out for a while and reinserting it; hard resetting it with reset while haolding the OK butteon; holding Q and T while resetting. I tried removing the battery overnight, then pressing D and B and plugging in the power; also, holding Fn, D, and M while pressing reset. The charging light comes on and something beeps when I did a hard reset. The display seems to change to a different shade of black when I try to trun it on but nothing that I can use.

Did I do damage to the screen when I dropped it or is it a used-up battery? I had its Piel Frama case on when dropped and I've dropped it before without a problem. If it's the screen, what can I do to repair it? If it's just the battery, I can replace it.

I don't know the 6000's very well, but if you know how to pull up the FN + D + M (or D +M) normally but it is not coming up now it sound like a problem with the display or the Zaurus innards, but probably not the battery. If the 6000 is like the CXXXX you shouldn't even need the battery in the battery bay in order to pull up the Fn+D+M menu.

Does anyone know where I can get service? Would it be cheaper to replace the 6000?

as per other post, look carefully to see if it's just the backlight.

if your display really is bust, Guylhem has a working one for sale.

they're not too hard to dismantle.

er, he's one of the people on this site, also take a look at [a href=\"http://externe.net/zaurus]http://externe.net/zaurus[/url] (I think). He had a bad car crash a few months ago so don't expect him to be answering private messages quickly.

Know this is an old thread, but have a couple comments anyhow.  First, the manual clearly states that the unit will not power on if the battery is low.  So, I think we have to wait until the charging light goes off, indicating that charging has been completed, before you try turning it on.

Second, I've had serious battery problems on my sl5500 because of droppage, finally figured out it's just the internal connectors for the AC adapter plug.  Will be writing a lot about this in my blog when I can take the time.

So, I'd suggest trying to charge a unit fully using the docking station as an alternative, to see if that makes a difference, especially if you drop your Z while it's plugged in to the adapter.

I'm concerned about their statement in manual that Tosa will not turn on if battery low.  That could be serious after there aren't any batteries being made, if it won't even turn on when on AC adapter, if I understand them right, it's planned obsolescence.

I have had very good luck with refilled batteries in a number of different devices and tools, I haven't had one done for quite some time but will check it out. One other issue is that one can not usually have a totally dead battery refilled, depending on what type it is.  Is there a model or serial number on the 6000 batteries?

Hm., you only asked 6000 when both are really issues.

Both are proprietary made by Sharp.   6000 is EA-BL09 and 5500 is EA-BL06.

What on earth is refilling a battery?  Is this next place what you mean?

I don't think you can rebuild all batteries. Many batteries, if opened, contain 2 or more cells, that can be replaced, reusing the battery case. But I don't think the 6000 has cells inside the battery case. If anyone wants more info on rebuilding batteries, check out this hpcfactor thread:
