Are these new devices having better screens? Any real development in the LCD industry? Is Z's CG Silicon LCD still the king out there?

So more specifically, is SL-6000 screen still the best out there? I'm going to my local CrapUSA to compare my Tosa's screen with Nokia 800's this week (last time i don't have my Tosa with me).

And what screen does other hot devices use, such as OQO, Sony UXX, HTC, Kohjinsha? Better? worse? comments compared to Z screen?

I dunno. I have both screens--the 6k is better, but not too terribly much (indoors). OUtdooers the 6k is more viewable

Actually, resolution wise, our zaurus is pretty good though the Nokians 770/800 should compare very well to it since it is of higher res, though bigger screen. So we should really be talking about dpi here.

Readibility wise, outdoors, CG LCDs are crappy. I've not seen the 6000 before, but my previous T3, which sports a transflective screen from sony, looks much better in outdoors.

Not that I've heard so far. Transflective LCDs are somewhat the latest greatest AFA PDAs goes.

Sony had an oled palm for a while, then as far as I know, nothing.

I'm still waiting for the direct neural input, or at least a head-up-display!

I agree with everyone here... PalmT3 had excellent display (but only 480x320) viewable anywhere, the 6000 is also pretty good, the 760/860/1000/3x00 is great indoors.

OLEDs are still making advances. There's still a problem with longevity but this is getting better... CIE had some interesting articles about it recently:

id have a HUD if it wasent for the price, the good ones i was looking at cost as much as a Z

OLES are intresting. i have heard of several devices with oleds but have yet to see one in real life

doin the calcs it looks like it can go for about 12 years at a low brighness setting. i wonder if the decrses in life is exponentiol as you pump more power thorgh it or if it is linear

To be honest, it is one of the best screens I've seen, those T3s. Too bad it has no keys integrated ... I felt too geeky with the Palm foldable keyboard.

my wife has a snap-on thumbboard with her M515, which I presume would work with the T3 if there was a driver, I don't know, I've never tried but perhaps I should.

I never miss having a KB when using the Palm, perhaps because I grew up with the stylus and didn't have a keyboard for quite some time. However, my first Z was an 860, and I always found the 6000 thumbboard frustrating, I suppose I was spoiled.

It's true, having graffiti meant I also didn't quite need a keyboard. Then I started trying to surf the web with the T3, and for 1) the dial up modem was pathetic, 2) I refuse to buy the sd wifi for a rip-off price of $119 and 3) using graffiti for posting on forums became too strenuous!

I'm pretty happy with my c1000 right now. The only thing that is bugging me is the slight lack of documentation for developing apps on it.

I'm kinda stuck trying to remap keys for it, and mapping some qcop commands to a keystroke using keyhelper.

As much as MS is hated by some, honestly, their documentation is by far as thorough as need be.

i dont think the problem is microsofts documentaiton but knowing where to look and what to look for

there are some truely bizare reg strings in wince that enable basic features that people like. however they are named in bizare fassions. funny thing is its normally the stuff that the oem turns off (go figure)

erm ... actually I was really saying that MS' documentation is great.
It's Zs documentation that is like a treasure-mine. But to be fair, I've only started off with trying to develop on Z while I've been developing on MS/Windows platform since DOS days, including wince, so I'll have to cut Z some slack and burrow more into the docu and see what turns up!
