C700 Is Unstable And Slow

I own a C700 with a 2gig SD card in it, and a Symbol wireless CF card that is pretty often in it.

I use OZ/Opie, and I usually always have the latest release candidate available.

No matter what, my C700 is always very slow and very unstable.
I cannot browse the web at all using the web browser, it is way too slow and eventually crashes.
I tried putting the SD in and creating a swap file, but it does not seem to help much.

The package manager also seems to hang all the time, especially when I try to install packages (to SD or not, does not seem to make a difference).

Is this common with the c700, because of a lack of ram maybe?
Or is it plausible that my unit is defective? If so, is there some application I can use to try and test the memory in the unit or something?

What should I try? I would love to use my Zaurus for work but right now I spend much more time rebooting it, then fscking the SD card because the Z crashed without unmounting it cleanly than using it..

Hi,

i've got a c700 also.  i've had it for about a month and am still looking for the right rom.  i seem to find myself standing on the train pulling the battery out to reboot alot also.  i'm using cacko now and have a problem waking from suspend.  other than that, it's great, but that issue is a biggie.

oz/opie seemed to perform well with no big probs, but doesn't have all of the installed goodies that cacko does...

if my struggles continue much further, i'm going to get a >=760 model.

sorry i have no definitive answers.  please let us know if you solve your issues.

I have a c700 and a c860.  Both cacko and pdaxrom are surprisingly usable on the c700 as long as you have a swap file activated (cacko has a memory manager tab).  The extra memory in the later Zs makes a huge diff but the c700 can be stable and not slow.  Once swap is activated you'd still hit annoying bugs like not being able to put the Z to sleep with the kdepim on.  But still quite usable.  Cacko and PDAXROM has some kernal feature having to do with preemptive multitasking that brings the speed up to the other Zs.  There is a full and lite Cacko but even the full one rocks the c700.  Good luck
