Samba Password Problem Windows Xp

I'm able to "see" my zaurus folders on my Windows XP  network "neighborhood" or by typing \\zaurus in the start-run box after I give a login of root and my password.  I created the login and password by following directions in a forum thread,  but I cannot successfully look at shared folders on my XP desktop from my Zaurus because it asks for a password and I don't know what the password might be!  I've tried guessing but it doesn't go for any of my guesses.  :-)  I was able to LIST and SEE all the folders - just can't mount one on the zaurus using ROX.

I am trying to mount the share by typing the following as a command:

mount -t smbfs //hp/Documents /mnt/card/hp
After it asks for a password and I give a guess at one it squawks that "1490: tree connect failed:ERRDOS - ERRnoaccess (Access Denied.) SMB connection failed."

How can I fix this?

if you login to xp with an id/password then try that - else create a new one in the user manager and check your shares allow this user access in explorer.

Thanks, zi99y.  I tried that but no joy.  Will tackle the problem again tomorrow...have run out of steam for today.  :-)
Thanks for your help - it may still be the solution but XP has to reboot before the password takes effect (I had no password but created one.) so I'll try that again tomorrow and REBOOT old XP after the password change and let you know if it worked.

creating a new user and assigning a password does not require a reboot in XP.
also, changing password or setting a new one does not require reboot.
to set a password for your current user, press ctrl + alt + del
click on change password. if you don't have one, you will be asked to input a new password twice, otherwise, you will be asked to provide your old password before you can provide a new one.

Everything has to be different or more difficult in Win XP Home.
I don't have an option anywhere in task manager to set or change a password.
On my XP Home PC, I found the option to create a password here.
Control panel > User Accounts.

That's where I tried to create a password yesterday for my administrative user but still no joy.
I even turned the firewall off briefly but that did not work either.

Also,  where can I create a symlink from samba in its current location so I can just type "samba start" or "samba stop" at the command line.  It says, -bash: samba: command not found when I type it in now,  but if I type in "mplayer" or "streamtuner",  those apps start up.

I welcome any other ideas from anyone on how to mount, "see" shared folders on my Windows XP desktop and be able to put files there (write to it) or copy from the folder to my Z.  Just need to get around the PASSWORD problem.  It asks for a password but I don't know what it is...I HAVE tried just hitting "enter" for blank password since I don't have ANY passwords set on my Windows XP box that I know of.

Is this a problem at the Windows end or the Z end?  I kinda think it's at the Z end since other computers on my network can access the folders.

Chero - you are my hero!  My username is Administrator (original, huh?) and that worked.  It asked for my password but I just hit "enter" for blank password and it worked.

Glad it worked. (Still had to do my one-good-thing-at-least-once-a-day thing)
You can also check out LinNeighborhood (Meanie's package in the announcement thread). In "preferences" you can add your user name "Administrator" as the default user and you can mount - unmount simply by tapping on the shared maps.

it's a good idea to create low-priv accounts in windows... in XP the normal control panel only gives you ability to make someone admin or power user. To access the old win2000 user management, right mouse click on my computer, choose "manage", then go to local users/groups, and you can put someone in the power users category.

on my windows box I thus have a specific "zaurus" user which is low-priv, and an "mp3" user with almost zero privs for my xbox mediacentre to access multimedia files.
