80 columns / 24 rows required ???
« on: March 09, 2004, 10:17:04 am »
Hi there,
if I connect my c760 to a unix host using telnet and start an app. in the terminal window on the host the following message appeares :
\"minimum of 80 columns / 24 rows required \"
and the app is terminated...8-(...
I also tried qconsole - same result.
What can I do to solve this problem ?

Zaurus 760 with sharp rom.

Thanx for any help !

Regards...

Have you tried reducing the font size and going full scree in qkonsole.

I am sure you shoukd be able to get an 80x24 readable screen in qkonsole.

Try fn-5 to go full screen and fn-1 to reduce font size.

Hi Peter,

I tried both : reduce font size and fullscreen - same result...8-(...
I think that the terminal emulation is the reason ?!?
But I don\'t know a lot about linux...8-(...
If I do an echo $TERM in the telnet session the result is vt100.

Any other ideas ?

Thanx for help !

What app are you trying to start?
what is the unix host (linux, sun, hpux, AIX etc)

I can happily telnet to my linux box without any issue, but I usually do this the other way round.

have you tried ssh instead of telnet?

In that case, when you log into the sun box your screen size is not being passed across, I presume you have managed to get the display bigger than 80*24 before trying to telnet across.

There is probably an env variable that may need to be changed manually.

I will have a look at our servers setup later today, but you could try ssh or try using a different shell on the sun box.

Do you have top instaled on the sun box? does that fill the screen?

Yould could try TERM=linux;export TERM.

I presume your sun box is running solaris if you want to run vts.

Hi Peter,

I\'d solve the problem by installing X/QT server from http://xqt.sourceforge.jp/download.html .

Great,
We use manily sun at work, but they have no wifi, and the pc\'s all use nt4 which does not support usb.  So I have never tried connecting to any of the work machines from my zaurus.

I may run across the same problem if I ever get round to setting it up.
