Wifi-radar Not Working
« on: June 26, 2007, 04:33:29 am »
Hi,

I've Meanies pdaXii13 v5.4.7 on my SL-C3100 installed and want to use wifi-radar. To get up to date I installed the newest version of:

- wifi_radar_1.9.8_2_armv5tel.ipk
- wpa_supplicant_0.4.7_2_armv5tel.ipk

The I'm not sure whether this is the right way or not so I created inside wifi-radar a new profile with the following setting:

Network Name: bitbuilder
Wifi Options:   Mode= auto |  Channel = Auto
Use WPA:  Driver=ipw
Manual Network configuration:
  IP: 10.0.0.10
  Netmask: 255.255.255.0
  Gateway: 10.0.0.1
  Domain:  bitbuilder.com
  DNS:  216.251.101.72
  DNS:    10.0.0.1
Connectin Command:   After = ifconfig eth2 mtu 1430

I'm not sure wehter these are the right settings. When I do connect to this settings I can't see any wlan although there are a lot of wlans here!

Do I have to do settings at System --> Lan&Wifi  like for kismet or Wellenreiter?

Please help me to get this working!

Thanks

What, exactly is it supposed to do? all I have ever seen it do is tell me what Im connected to---an earlier version needed me to configure that part first, as well.
Is it supposed to find networks and help me connect?

wifi radar is a wifi connection management tool. it allows you to configure network profiles and connect/disconnect from those networks. (capn fish has written a similar tool without GUI) wifi radar does not use schemes and stores its own config and hence can work in both 2.4 as well as 2.6 kernels. it also has support for wpa (provided the hardware supports it and wpa-supplicant is installed). wifi radar can also scan for existing networks if it is started with the -d option, but this again depends on the wireless card supporting such features (firmware, drivers, etc... and the tools it calls also need to support these features, ie iwconfig, iwspy, ....)

I think my wlan-card support this feature because under cacko wellenreiter and kismet work fine with the scan mode.

Which setting do you have for scan mode. If i stard 'wifi-radar -d' at the shell i don't get normal frontend from wifi-radar. So I think this setting could be "Wifi Options:  Mode=Monitor"?

Thanks

Hi climber,

I just installed R197 and the SP8, found that wifi-radar ist already included there and so I gave it a try.

My idea was that wifi-radar scans for available wlans and helps me to connect, but I have the same problems as you. I only had some minutes yesterday evening and I didn't get a proper connection then. Hopefully this evening I have some more time to play with it.

When I start wifi-radar from command-line I see error-messages:
Code: [Select]
wifi0    Interface doesn't support scanning : Bad address

. Got current IP  False
Got current SSID
until I stop it.

Why did you set  "Use WPA: Driver=ipw"? This is not in the list of drivers in my wpa_supplicant. I only have "hostap", "atmel", "wext" and "wired". As I understand it, it should be either "wext" or "hostap"?

Cheers, Jan

Jan,

I see the same error messages as you! That's curious because I mentioned it before scanning with wellenreiter and kismet work fine!

Hmm....

I'll try a earlier version. Maybe this work!!!

Do you have any ideas how to fix the problem?

Hi climber,

I got the same warning message as you on an earlier version of pdaXrom but this is really just a warning. Wireless worked fine then, but I didn't use wpa on that ROM-version.

On R121 I used wpa_supplicant, but without wifi-radar. It worked fine but it was difficult to add a new wlan and I had to use my own scripts.

I will give wifi-radar a try, it seems to do exactly what I need (if it does it  )

As I said: I just installed the new pdaXrom-version and everything works except wireless. I'm quite busy at the moment but as soon as possible I will try to solve the problem. But: No, at the moment I have no idea how to fix it. I will start by checking that all required processes run properly and that the device-names are used consistantly.

Cheers, Jan

Jan,

that's fine! I just see that we have the same wlan-cf card "DCF 660W".

I'm wondering whether our wlan-card supports the scanning-mode or not. Meanie mentioned also the following things what we could check whether our wlan-card supports it or not!

---------------------------------------
...... depends on the wireless card supporting such features (firmware, drivers, etc... and the tools it calls also need to support these features, ie iwconfig, iwspy, ....)
--------------------------------------------------------

Hmm, a question to all which read this entry! If you have also installed Meanies greate pdaXii13 v.5.4.x and und use wifi-radar successfully (scan-monitor mode) please write it down and the model of your wlan-cf card.

Thanks

Climber,

I only had a few minutes but I found out that the error message "Interface doesn't support scanning" comes from

iwlist scan

wifi-radar seems to just call the standard wireless utilities and one of them, iwlist, seems not to support scanning. It would be interesting to know if someone else uses wifi-radar and is able to use the scanning. The question ist: Is it just the combination of the drivers and network-card or is scanning through iwlist generally not possible on pdaXrom.

Cheers, Jan

from commandline using -d wifi-radar scans my ap, then ends. Kismet finds other nearby APs--this may be because I don't know what I'm doing with wifi-radar? anyway, I'm not getting any "unsupported " error
