Angstrom V Pdaxii13, Kazekahase Cvs On Both
« on: June 29, 2007, 09:10:54 am »
I've haven't got to try Angstrom since its second alpha release but I didn't really get long to play with it so I was wondering what state it is in now and how its feature set on the c3xxx devices compares to pdaXii13.

Does Angstrom have accelerated 320x240 video under mplayer yet? Are USB host devices working? How about using the c3x00 drive as a USB mass storage device? What can pdaXii13 do that the latest Angstrom can't or vice versa?

Also, I'd like to know if anyone has tried a recent cvs version of Kazekahase under either pdaXii13 or Angstrom? I thinking theres more chance it will run reliably under Angstrom than pdaXii13, but hopefully it will run well under both.

XorA has been doing work on Kazehakase for Angstrom lately.  My impression was that he liked it.  That is all I can say.

Great!

So is kazekahase up on the angstrom repositories now? Anyone care to comment on how it runs i.e load time, stability, compatibility etc? Does it handle gmail.com?

No-one tried it on pdaXii13 recently?

i have been running it on and off and didnt have a problem with usb host devices, didnt try client and i might have had to load ohci-hcd but everything worked well.

run time is great. seemed stable however i havent had much time to stress test it and i tend to hit wierd bugs others dont while not hitting the same bugs others do

I have read that it has 320x240 video, but have not messed with it myself.  I did get USB host working with a particular device (my Garmin gps).

after reading the mailing lists the iwmmxt patches are in the mplayer angstrom code but didnt get enabled properly. there should be a patch in a week or two at which point there should be a speed up in video processing

Is going to [a href=\"http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/]http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/[/url] clicking on 'package browser', entering 'kazekahase' and clicking 'search' really that hard?
Forums are not bugtrackers!!! Smart questions

I would say not hard but also not much use - nothing I searched for appeared (vi, emacs ) even clicking on a letter - presumably displays all packages starting with said letter returned NOTHING for any letter ... how sad am I that I clicked a thru z.

Is it broken? or is it me  - I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.4 on Fedora Core 4?

I think danboid wanted to know how Kazehakase ran (whether it was reliable or not) -- and also, he asked other questions.

Koen, I know you think you're the God of Zaurus programming and that you can do no wrong, but because of your pissy attitude I may never move to Ångstrom. I hope that's the effect you wanted. It seems that every time someone asks ANYTHING about Ångstrom you yell at them (well, type angrily at them, anyway). Sometimes people actually want to know HOW things run instead of "yes, it technically runs on Ångstrom because we rock". If the browser is crippled but technically runs, what's the point? I noticed that there is no description of the stability/usability of these compiled apps when you look at their description -- therefore, whether you like it or not, people will ask questions.

Although I admire the work put in to get Ångstrom running and to create a good site to find everything etc., it's not perfect. It will never be perfect. Forums exist. Deal with it. If you don't want to answer questions, don't.

From what I've read in the past few days, it would still seem that pdaXii13 is beating Angstrom in both features and stability, although I'm just weighing up other people views here.

I've still yet to hear if anyone has tried kaze svn under pdaXii13 yet and I'd also like to know what the gtk devs amongst you have to say on kazes supposed instability when running under pdaXii13? Would kaze need to be backported to the older gtk used by pdaXii13 or should I just forget about ever getting to run this program stable under pdaXii13?

i've just tried under angstrom (v0.4.7 from angstrom repository) :
-load time is fast , about 5s
-stability is catastrophic ! it launchs but on any www request it segfaults....
