3200/860 Power Adaptor Question

Recently the power adaptor for my beloved Zaurus 3200 has gone wandering. As a replacement is going to be very expensive shipped to the United States, I thought I'd investigate options closer to home first.

First off, can I use my old 860 power adaptor on the 3200? I'm worried about the two not being compatible and wanted to ask the experts first before trying it, and thus losing my lifeline forever.

Secondly, my searching in these forums has turned up numerous references to the PSP power adaptor being compatible with the 3200's, and Googling seems to confirm this. What concerns me is that most of those reports/confirmations are European, and I'm again worried that there's a difference between the US/UK versions and the possibility of frying my second brain.

Would either of these work? If not, I'll just go ahead and grab an adaptor from an importer that sells them. Thanks!

I regularily use my sons PSP charger to charge my C3000. I also have a 9800mAH PSP secondary battery which works a treat. The PSP and Zaurus share the same connector and thankfully the same 5V requirement.

Go for it. I'm in the UK too.

I can confirm that both adapters work fine (on a C3100). I'm not in Europe, though.

Thank you both! Actually, I'm in the US right now, which is why I was worried about that issue. But it sounds like I have my answer.

tomtom go chargers - in car and mains - are also fine with the zaurus

When I am using my zaurus as a media player in the car I use the GO charger (from go 300,500,700) to stop it running the battery down.

As ever with in-car chargers, I would shy away from using a cheap one because their ability to regulate the voltage safely and protect from the severe transients on a car's 12V supply is probably poor, and you might cook your Z's power circuits or worse!

I never start my car with anything electronics connected to the
cigar-lighter power port

For Zaurus charging you can use:

- Sharp Zaurus charger
- Compaq/HP Ipaq chargers (h3600/3800/3900/5400/5500 atleast)
- USB Hub chargers (not every - need to check each time) - I charge my Hub with Zaurus charger
- PSP chargers

as long as its 5v and at least 500mas on the output it should be fine

the polarity you are looking for is gnd on the outside and 5v on the inside, there should be a picture that looks like a dot with a C shape around it, the c shape indicates the outside and what is connected to and the dot the pin

rough diagram:

gnd ---Co----5v (except the dot or "o" is inside the C

luckily most 5v chargers are like that but i have one or two with incorrect polarity (and they are now marked on the tip so i dont use them with the Z)
