C machine questions - hardware menus, etc.
« on: March 14, 2004, 10:00:54 am »
Yep, I\'ve surprised even myself starting a topic here ;-)

Anyway I was just wondering whether there\'s a comprehensive explanation etc. of the various hardware menus on the C machines?

Blah, blah.

I\'ve looked at the HowTos but they only describe a couple of things, for example restoring from a NAND backup (BTW should I make a NAND backup when I get my c750??).

Cheers,

This is all I know.

Flash Menu
1 • Cancel (quit flash menu and boot normally)
2 • Execute FSCK (filesystem check)
3 • Reset (reset factory defaults)
4 • Flash / Update

So how do I actually make the flash backup?

Also I thought I\'d start by installing the pdaXrom. On the web page it says that if you have a c860/760 you should repartition to 50, with a c750/700 repartition to 30. What is this? I assume it\'s the size of the root partition, but is it the user writable bit or the bit where the ROM is placed?

Actually is the ROM-flash bit user writable (a la OZ), that would be good? Where is the user bit of flash mounted, etc.?

Thanks (sorry for the questions, but I have the beast in my hand now and am chafing at the bit).

Okay searching has answered my questions about NAND backups, and conics.net has (at least a partial_ explanation of the service menus.

I\'m still interested to know about how the flash memory is partitioned and mounted though.

Well lardman, I am in the same boat having just landed a C750 for myself.

The cacko ROM (or X11) installation help
http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php...download&sid=30
or
http://www.pdaxrom.org/index.php?showid=2&menuid=1

for the latest 1.20 version (down the page) has some step by step guide as to how to re-partition the flash.
I hope that is the trick - i still havent ventured out to do it as yet - first have to catch up on the nand backup.
