What\'s the diff. between WFC11 & WCF12?

I\'m guessing one is just a newer version? Should I buy the WFC12? I\'m just worried about driver support on a new product. Please asvise.

I believe the issue with the wcf11 was its \'T\' shape.  Apparently when its in your PDA, it obstructs certain periferials, in the case of the Zaurus, it blocks the headphone jack and almost blocks off the stylus silo.  The wcf12 is just a rectangular shape so takes up as little space as possible

I\'m using the WCF12 and it works fine with Sharp ROM 3.1 and also OZ3.2
Just plug the card. No driver installation needed.

Is that Sharp ROM 3.1 on a SL-5500 or a SL-5600?  I upgraded my SL-5500 to v3, and now my Linksys WCF11 card doesn't seem to work.    How can I tell if it's the ROM upgrade or if my WiFi card just died?

i thought my wcf11 didnt work, because i would plug it in and the light would keep flahing, never connected to my router.
you may think this sounds quacky, but it works like a charm: i find that if you touch the wireless car with your fingers when youre connecting or transferring data, it works like a charm. apparently the human body's electrical feild works like an antenna

Im not sure if this is the place to ask this, so no hard feelings if no responses :-) but it seems related.

I have been using my 860 for 6 months or so (I should perhaps warn at this stage that Im not really a teccy.... and as for the anticipated"why did you get a zaurus then" comments...... well... I like a challange, I like to avoid microsoft, and most importantly.. I really really like it.. anyway, back to the plot).

I was using a cackoo rom for some time quite happily, but then I decided to get a wireless card. I noted many people were successfully using a WCF12 so I went for it.

Unfortunately I just couldnt get it to work with the old ROM. Since then I have tried various ROMS.

Newer Cackoo - still no joy with the wifi,

The kompany - never could get a successful flash (the TKC site doesnt provide all three files for the 860 or similar, and the ones I tried didnt work)

PDAXrom - Hooorah... worked with wifi card BUT could not install packages !!!

Open Zaurus - Again, worked with card, but again ipk install probs (note, I obtained packages from relevant feeds, i.e. pertinant to ROM).

Open Embedded 3.5.1 - able to install packages... but, surprise surprise, wifi not working.

I really dont want to change roms again (partly because this one looks well good), so perhaps I am just not doing something I need to. So here is my position.

I havent installed any drivers (do I need to or should this ROM work ok with the WCF12). The light comes on on the card - but nobody is home :-). It does not flash on and off, just stays on. There is acknowledgement that the card is inserted in the CF slot on insertion, but the wlan monitor says card NOT inserted.

Is there anyone with the time / patience to explain what I need to do ?

@ GlasgeeLad : I have a WCF12 and also experienced problems with OZ 3.5.1. My advice is to check out this  ZUG thread which may help you.

There should be no need to install any drivers, as this card uses the prism2 chipset which is very well supported by OZ.

Most problems I've had have been down to configuration issues (and a slight problem with the Opie network app).

@ novakane: I would get the WCF12, support for these cards are getting better all the time and not having the headphone jack/stylus hole blocked has got to be worth it.

In some rom you have to edit a line in your wlan_ng.conf under /etc/pcmcia (you remove a line) to make the WCF12 work. I Forgot which one, but the answer is sure in this forum and in externe.net forum.

Unfortunately, there is no wlan_ng.conf in my current set up under 3.5.1. I do recall editing this file under a previous rom to get things working though.

I checked out the thread but it seemed to me that this still assumed some rsponse from the card (i.e. it was recognised after a reboot).

Aprecciate the comments any how..  I will persevere!
