Is It Possible Combine Cacko With Linux Kernel 2.6 ?
« on: November 21, 2008, 07:45:45 am »
I have Zaurus C860
I used Cacko, but Kernel 2.4 did not suport 4GB SD cards, searchin for near wifi points...

I install OpenZaurus 3.5, where is kernel 2.6.
4GB cars and searching for wifi points work, but I thing that Opie is not such good as Cacko.

Is some way how to instal new kernel and Cacko together?
Thank you
Martin

You probably COULD, but it would likely be much more effort than it's worth (and would likely be full of strange bugs and random broken features). You could try Angstrom with Opie or Angstrom with GPE. Both are newer/more up-to-date than OZ.
SL-C750- pdaXrom beta 1 (mostly unused)
Current distro: Gentoo

Some application from Opie from OZ is not prepare for full control by keyboard.
For example ToDo list:
I open it an i have to click to row for new task for starting type new task.
I write task and then i have click to screen to green check.
Keys OK and Enter do not work.

So do you think that in Angstrom is this appliocation beter prepared for work on Zaurus?

I don't know for sure, as I haven't used Opie. I do know that Angstrom succeeded OZ, so most everything it has is likely to be more up-to-date/full-featured than OZ.

The reason for keeping cacko/sharp is for a number of high quality applications, this means keeping the system libraries and qtopia1.7 and qt-2.3.2 (I think) libraries, which have to be compiled with gcc-2.9(something).

I don't think it's even possible to build kernel 2.6.2x with such old GCC without huge effort, and I would not expect it to be possible to get it to work with such old system libraries.

You might be better off throwing your weight behind some other projects:
