C760 - Linksys WCF12 Wireless CompactFlash Card works.
« on: October 16, 2003, 03:49:14 pm »
FYI,

I tested the Linksys WCF12 Wi-Fi card on my 760.  I had to add an entry into the
/etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.conf file as:

card \"Linksys Wireless CompactFlash Card\"
 manfid 0x028a, 0x0673
 bind \"orinoco_cs\"

Of course, you\'ll need to get the orinoco patches to turn on monitoring modes
for kismet.

I was able to pick this card up for $30 USD after rebate at CompUSA.

I\'ve give this a try when I get home.  I\'m running sash\'s rom, though.

ALso, do you have kismet working?  What did you to do get it working?
What about wellenreiter?

John, where can I get precompiled orinoco_cs module for C760 (Sash\'s ROM 1.17 kernel)?

I can not get it working with prism2_cs, but I do not have orinoco_cs compiled with my kernel.

I have a C760 and the same card, but have no need to use orinoco-cs. I need prsm2_cs and it works fine. the only thing was, that i had to add an additional entry in wlan-ng.conf.
Though an entry for my card existed in this file my card was not recognized when inserting (no CF symbol).
After querying the slot with \'cardctl ident\' and adding these lines in the file, i got it working.

kismet was a little more tricky because the card suspends per default. so i had to add a pcmcia scheme that prevents the card from suspending.

When I start kismet this scheme is activated and when quitting kismet it is changed back.

i\'m using the same card with Kismet on a 5500.  i\'m learning linux more as i go, and just made two shell scripts-- one that makes the card look for a network continually, and one that turns it off, both using schemes.  how do you have it set up to do this automatically when running Kismet?  it would save me quite a few clicks and button presses when going wardriving!

hi asys3, just wondering exactly what you have added to the wlan-ng.conf file to make the card work.
What i have added was:

card \"Linksys\", \"wireless CompactFlash Card\", \"\", \"\"
  manfid 0x028a 0x0673
  bind \"prism2_cs\"

but still couldn\'t get it to work, thx

I got it to work again by editing the /etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.conf file.

go down to the part where is says

card \"Linksys WCF12 etc...

edit it so it looks just like this (instead of what they got there)

card \"Linksys WCF12 11Mbps 802.11b WLAN Card\"
version \"Linksys\", \"Wireless CompactFlash Card\"
bind \"prism2_cs\"

After editing this file, what do you do to have it see your changes?  Did you restart the Zaurus or did you just have to take out the cf card and re-insert it, or what?
