Problem, Comments on new Cacko Qtiopia ROM
« on: March 21, 2004, 12:27:14 pm »
First off, the only reproducable problem I have is the Hancom mobile word doesn\'t seem to be able to deal with ms word doc files. It thinks it can, but it can\'t. It looks like it can even save in doc format, just not read it. The spreadsheet program works well. Is anybody else getting this behaviour or am I special? I plan on trying to rummage up a hancomm mobile word, \"overwriting\" the one in the ROM and see if that helps.

I am also experiencing a probaem that happens often, but not every time. If I run a program in \"magnified screen\" mode, physically flip the screen, then flip it back, sometimes the machine reboots. Instantly. Very annoying. If I can get it to do it regularly I will report back.

Finally, is there a reason I\'m missing why NetFront and Opera are included? Why not just opera? Other than that, very sweet ROM folks!

Hancom word doesn\'t have complete word support.  Look at their website; I believe they have a comparison chart showing which features are supported and which are not.  (Same is true of their other apps.)

The occasional reboot when flipping the screen back happens with tkcROM 2.5.1 also.  So I don\'t think it\'s a cacko problem.  I\'d love to find a solution for that problem.  It IS very annoying.

Opera and NetFront have different strengths.  For my part, I prefer Opera but I wish it allowed me to increase the font size without scaling the whole screen (something NF does).  NF doesn\'t seem to work as well on some sites.  For example, there\'s a problem reading the ZUG with it (look for thread elsewhere).

A long time ago when I used the original ROM that came with my SL-C750 I was able to view and edit doc files well enough. Now I get a blank screen, so I don\'t think that\'s the problem. Before it didn\'t look the same, but it displayed something.

Also another request. Please create a soft link in /lib from libncurses.so.5.0 to libncurses.so.5. Most of the CLI apps I install complain about this but run OK. So, this is just annoying but it would nice to skip that millisecond of WTF when I run ipkg. :-)

To resolve the libncurses problem do the following as root:

# mount -o remount,rw /
# ldconfig
# mount -o remount,ro /

I don\'t use the Hancom stuff very often, but you might want to try the updated Hancom packages that are in the ZUG downloads.  I suspect that they are newer because the version in Cacko says 1.0 and the downloads are 1.5.

Hope this helps.
