Some questions from newbie
« on: March 21, 2004, 02:27:57 pm »
I recently purchased Sl5600 and i like it  a lot. However i\'ve some questions.

1) Rightnow i don\'t have wireless network, but i\'m planning to set up a wireless communication with xp and 5600. Is adhoc the right mode to set up the connection(i\'ve only dial up internet connection)? I\'m trying to purchase a netgear ma701.Any suggestions.

2) Sometimes, when I read a document file from 5600, it says the memory is not available and the some texts are not displayed.

3) I\'ve a 250 chip which I heard that there are some bugs in it. Can a newbie fix those bugs. What knowledge is required to do that? I\'ve been mandrake and debian for quite some time.

Thanks a lot for all helpful people.

Congratgulation on the new accquisition of SL-5600.  I am assured that you will love it.

Use System Info applicaton to check whether you got the latest Version 1.32 ROM version which provides the Linux Kernael Version 2.4.18-rmk7-pxa3-embedix.

if it was not the right version, proceed to http://www.myzaurus.com/ROMupdate6.asp to download and install the modules.

As for your document file, please specify which application and size of file was read.  Sometimes it happends when the file to be read is corrupted.  So far, I can open about 4 application currently with my SL-5600.

I hope the above will help.

Run a search on Tummnus.  He has a kernel that fixes the 5600 to the extent that it runs quite fast.  Usually can get cheap symbol wireless CF cards on ebay.  Works great.  Same as more expensive socket low power card. I hated the netgear card until it fortunately broke.  You can actually watch the power level drop real time.  You are right about the ad-hoc.  Don\'t forget the KO/Pi PIM.  Hope this helps.
