who has bought/preordered a SL-6000 from Amazon?
« on: March 23, 2004, 09:23:56 pm »
I\'m questioning whether I should pre-order.  Of course I want it, but I\'m considering holding out for March 31st to determine:

it if does indeed ship on that date
if other e-tailers offer a more competitive rates

I consider buying now in fear that the pre-orders exhaust the initial supply that amazon gets.

So I\'m wondering if anyone has purchased from Amazon.

I\'m going to \"wait and see\".  I really want the 6000W, if it does happen to be released in the US market I\'ll probably buy it.  Otherwise, I\'ll take my time and decide what to do.  If it turns out there\'s a successor to the C860 with wifi/bluetooth both built in, it might be worth it, even with the steep import prices.

I\'m perfectly satisfied with the \"L\" because I don\'t know what I would use the bluetooth for.  What...a bluetooth printer...don\'t got one...got a USB one.  The other option ae thise bluetooth earpieces people use to talk on their cellphones.  Is there a way to make this device into a cellphone?  What is RTT?  I don\'t knowif I\'d want to use my PDA for a cellphone.  And then I figure, I don\'t know why not.  I\'ll withold any more questions until after more people reply to this thread.

1xRTT is the 128+ kbps CDMA wireless standard currently used by Sprint and Verizon.  The T608 phone, offered in limited quantity by Sprint, allows you to use bluetooth for wireless high speed internet access anywhere on their network for $20/mo.

(although 1xRTT might seem passe when Verizon rolls out EVDO)

I pre-ordered a week and a half ago.  May as well \"jump in the pool\" is my thinking.  Love my 5600, but that new screen makes me wet !  :-)

I don\'t know what I would use the bluetooth for.

Bluetooth-enabled phones are also widely available for GSM carriers, although your coverage will be more limited in the US--mostly major metro areas and some Interstate corridors.  GPRS (the data standard for GSM networks) also has a slower theoretical max than 1xRTT (about 50 kbps), but it\'s still useable connectivity when you\'re out and about.

Well folks
I bought it from Pc Connection.  They claim it its in stock.  They will send it to me Saturday.  I also got the docking cradle.  The cradle will come a few days later.

~$775

Sight un-seen.  Muhahha.  I\'ll keep all the packaging and everything so in the case that I must send it back I can.  What about a network ethernet connector.  I guess I need to look into that.

I wnted to let you know that I have pre-orded the sl-6000L from amazon and I had my unit delivered the afternoon of the 1rst of april and i love this unit. it is a little wider and longer than the 5600 but i think its well worth the size. the only draw back is that i cant find accessories for the 6000 like a carrying case. If any one has any sugestions I would really appreciate it.

I have a HP-48GX and the case that comes with it is perfect.  In fact the case is longer than the 6000, but not wider.  Its perfect.  If you need a really powerful Scientific Calculator then Go hook one up.  I think they have a HP-49 nowadays.

Did you get a \"spare\" docking cradle ?  Just asking, cuz my 6000L came with one in the standard packaging.

The cases are on clearance at target for $3.99. HP 48 cases fit well.  No carrying strap but will protect it lugging it around.
