Service menu inaccessible
« on: March 25, 2004, 04:14:52 pm »
what are the exact steps for entering the sl-c860 service menu?

I\'ve entered it before to do a full nand backup to cf before installing
oz 3.5.5. now I would like to restore this backup to get off the
hancom apps but I can\'t access the service menu, how do I
get there?

solved this issue! c860 seem to have different ways of accessing the service menu, mine let me in after the following:
1) remove charging cable
2) move battery switch to open
3) remove battery
4) wait 30 sec.
5) press d & m at the same time and keep them pressed
6) insert battery - at this point my service menu appears alredy on the screen without closing the battery switch
7) close battery switch, insert charging cable for safe flashing

There\'s an easier way...

1. remove all power sources
2. hold down D and M
3. Insert Power Cable

Just be careful what you do in the Service Menu, the reset option does NOT reboot your Zaurus! (it deletes most of the NAND Flash). I found that out the hard way :/ To leave the Service Menu safely, just remove all power sources.

foxdie, wich reset are you refering to?

The one you get from service menu 3, sub menu 7 (extra menu) item 9 reset?

I use this all the time to exit the menu\'s with (so far) no ill effect.  Maybe I will just pull the battery in future :?

I believe that\'s the one I used, it totally screwed it up. I\'ve had no Zaurus to use for the last 3-4 weeks or so because I didn\'t have a 256MB or greater CF / SD card to reflash the NAND. Thankfully offroadgeek gave me his spare *feels special*

As the options automatically save their settings when it returns back to the service menu, it\'s safe (as far as I\'ve noticed and I\'ve used the service menu quite a lot) to just pull all power. I recommend it but I take no responsibility if it screws the zaurus up

Hmm yuo must be referring to another menu, cause I\'ve been using the reset on the extra menu since August on my C760 and never had that problem.

Of course I\'ve stayed away from all the other options apart form NAND Backup and NAND restore. You can do some real damage using these menus - aging is suppossed to be a real bad one according to what I have read on this and other forums.

Maybe you accidentally hit the option below it, nand erase? that one is nasty.
