Good stuff!
I followed your instructions and it works great.
Here are some more tips:
Move /opt and /home to your SD card using the tar and link technique.
then make /dev/mtdblock3 a swap partition and change /etc/fstab accordingly.
This makes the Z a LOT more responsive and lets you install as many apps as you want on root

Can I do something like that with the zaurus mtd? or is it going to wear down the memory device?

Whats wrong with the opie media player?

If you are having audio speed playback issues try:

If you have an Ipaq 39xx, Zaurus SL-5600 or other model which lacks ALSA support, and find that audio playback occurs at double speed, edit the following file:

/Settings/opiexine.cf

and uncomment the line:

audio.oss_sync_method:softsync

Then, after restarting mediaplayer 2, the audio should now play at the correct speed.

I got this off the net.  It fixed playback for me with the zynergy ROM.

Since this thread doesn\'t specify inorder to load OZ3.3.6pre1 you need to get the Rom here:
http://openzaurus.org/official/experimenta...dle/3.3.6-pre1/

I loaded it lastnight, it\'s beautiful. The only problem I\'m having so far is that although my wifi card pulls an IP, I am unable to use IRC or use Opera to pull webpages. I plan on flashing my Socket wifi card today and maybe this will resolve the issue.

suchs, Hi, Base on your message of success on update the OZ 3.3.6-Pre1. I wonder are these the right file: ipks.tar, initrd.bin, zImage, and updater.sh sthat need to be copied to CF card for updatingthat you used. I mean do I need the file ipks.tar with other three file ( initrd.bin, zImage and updater.sh) in the CF card to do an update to OZ 3.3.6-pre1. Please write back to me with your convienent time.

Thanks in advance.

Hey! I am new to the zaurus world. I have some questions about installing OZ 3.3.6pre on a SL-5600. I downloaded the files and followed the instructions carefully but i'm still not getting a GUI, all I get is the console. I tried starting OZ from the console /etc/init.d/opie start but all i get is Starting Opie-login with syslog logging..... I am not sure why it is doing this but i did observe that after flashing my 5600 but before the 202 packages loaded, i got the following message modprobe: can't locate devinfo. I don't know if this is linked with my problem. Thanks for all the help.

I've tried this a hundred times with different CF cards, all to no avail.

The cards are Fat 16 like the site asks, and on the card is just 'zImage' and 'initrd.bin'.

Should there be any other files?  Once I reset, all I get are the mail and battery lights flashing on and off.

I have a PXA255 model, if that makes any difference.

Just thought I'd point some people in the right direction.

http://cmisip.home.insightbb.com/zaurus.htm

Use those instructions when installing OpenZaurus.  They are what finally worked for me.

Now I gotta figure out why Konqueror won't recognize my wifi.  At least I finally got it installed though.. looks and works nice

If I understand the hardware configuration of the SL-5600 correctly, mtdblock3 is 32MB of flash memory, therefore has a limited lifespan and could therefore develop bad sectors much quicker than your standard hard drive. Wouldn't using this memory as swap space significantly decrease it's lifespan and possibly cause irreparable damage to your 5600? Unless of course you can find a repacement IC, dismantle your 5600, and happen to be really good with soldering SMT chips.

Just wondering.

I do, howver, like the idea of moving most/all of my installation to an SD card.
