Problem using Irda Modem connection via SonyEricsson T68i
« on: April 03, 2004, 03:53:52 pm »
Hi all,

I cannot make my Dial-Up connection to work on my Zaurus SL5500 with my mobile T68i. I tried many things like changing chat scripts, changing Init scripts, sniffing the connection (only with tcpdump, because I cannot find compiled version of irdatools for Zaurus).
The problem is that my T68i doesn\'t start even dialing. In the chat log I see that the Zaurus cannot get response after sending init commands (I saw in the documentation of T68i that the Init String is ATF). However it worked with my old mobile - R320s. I tested the phone modem with Irda connection with Compaq Ipaq and it worked. Also the exchange of pictures, contacts, etc. between my Zaurus and T68i also works. The only thing that doesn\'t work is the Dial-Up connection (when I try to use the modem of my cell).
Please help if someone has the same configuration Zaurus SL5500 + T68i, or give me suggestions what to do. Thanks in advance for every response.

What ROM are you using?  My T68m works fine with my 5500, but I am back at Sharp ROM 2.37, because it is known that ROM 3.1 breaks the T68 IrDA.  There was a lot discussion a while back when the version 3 Sharp ROM came out.  Sharp (and others) blame Sony-Ericsson for having a nonstandard IrDA implementation.

One other thing to consider is to buying a bluetooth card and using that with the T68i.

Ambicom cf56m-ez modem
Ambicom wl1100c-cf wifi

There is a kernel patch available, but you need to recompile the kernel to apply it.

Most probably this is the problem. I\'m using ROM3.0. I\'ll try to find the patch and recompile the ROM, hope this will work
BTW, I was trying to make Irda connection with my T68i and Irda adapter on Linux desktop box, but the kernel drops some like \"Inactive link on IRLap\" (or somethink like this). I found that this can be fixed be decreasing the max_baud_rate at proc settings of the Irda device, but it didn\'t work again.
I\'m little disappointed from SonyErricsson since I have this T68i for two weeks, but this is a topic for another forum not here

I\'m not sure you\'ll find the patch , but I can send it to you. Give me an e-mail.

Well - I had to laugh when I read this thread.

I have been trying to connect to my phone (Sony EricssonT39i) since Christmas when bought my Zaurus 5500 using Sharp 3.1 (or related ROMs i.e. TKR, Hybrid,YAR, OZ etc. ) but to no avail. I\'ve mucked around with Chats/Peers/minicom etc. also without success. I bought  a Bluetooth card, managed to Pair up, create a hcid.conf file (thanks to help here on this forum) but also had no success in getting the phone to dial!

I read this thread , then flashed using a 2.39 Rom, created a new IRDA dialup, and hey presto the phone dials up first time and I am on the Internet !!!

Oh well

However (and there always seems to be a however with the Zaurus - but I do love it nevertheless), I cannot sync with outlook due to using NT at work, although I did install the previous Intellisync Software, which I think is required.

So my next question is can someone help with with the patch for the Kernel.  I am not sure that I am up to compiling a new Kernel as I don\'t have a linux machine other than the Zaurus, but I am willing to try if needs be. I guess I would ideally like to be able to patch any number of ROMs but this may not be possible. I am currently using TKR 1.0 due to syncing problems with other Roms.

cheers

I did some searching myself and found the Cacko Kernel download i.e. Cacko Kernel for SL5500 with 32/30 memory layout .

I am currently using the TKR 1.0 and flashed that with this image and the Zaurus booted up successfully (I didn\'t realise that you could use different Kernels i.e. cako vs tkr with the same rom).

However, I am afraid to report that having set-up a new IRDA dialup connection using Network, it was not possible to Dial up on my T39i phone despite the Kernel having been patched to solve this problem.

Have I done something wrong? Do I need to use the original Sharp Rom 3.10 rather than TKR?

Please advise.

thanks Nigel Bamber

It would be well deserved !!

What I meant to say though was \'If only I knew what I have just done\' !

For my clarification is this:

Quote
echo 1 ] /proc/sys/net/irda/max_tx_window
echo 1000 ] /proc/sys/net/irda/min_tx_turn_time

being applied because

1. I am using TKR ?
2. The patched kernel needs a further patch for all Sharp compatible Roms?
3. That is in fact the patch itself ?

Thanks

No, this is not the patch itself. The patch is a piece of C source code that changes some kernel behaviour. It adds these parameters to the proc file system, which allow to adjust some IRDA settings to make IRDA connection with ericson phones reliable.

The above two command make those adjustments.

I hope I explained well..

Hi Group,

I\'ve tried with two kernel - compiled with the patch from maslovsky and with the Cacko Kernel. The kernel update passed OK (by the way don\'t try to flash with PQI CF cards, because it didn\'t work with 64MB and 128MB ones). Now I have max_tx_window in my /proc/sys/net/irda but the problem is that I cannot set it

========================
#su
#echo 1]/proc/sys/net/irda/max_tx_window
#echo 1000 ]/proc/net/irda/min_tx_turn_time
#cat /proc/net/irda/min_tx_turn_time
1000
#cat /proc/sys/net/irda/max_tx_window
7
#
========================

Does anyone has any ideas ?

I have just done the same test on mine and I get the same response 7 (rather than 1).

The good news is that that doesn\' t seem to affect the situation negatively, i.e. for the first time I have been able to connect to my T39i phone via IRDA and Bluetooth for the first time using TKR or other Sharp compatible 3.1 ROM.

Have you tried connecting yet?
