OZ USB Sync/Files
« on: October 25, 2003, 02:59:32 pm »
I just put Openzaurus 3.2 on my zaurus and I have not for the life of me been able to figure out how to get it to sync or file transfer.  All I really need to do is to be able to transfer files to it.

I\'m running Windows 2000 on my desktop.  Can anyone offer any help?

TIA

download the troll desktop software. Install that on windows. Now goto network setting and u will see another network device...which is the zaurus. Now check the network setting of the zaurus...for the usb device...just make sure windows network usb device has same setting as zaurus...and then the synch option will be avavible via the trolltech software.

No!  Do it the fun way.

The trolltech stuff sucks an incredible amount of ass under windows.  It might be necessary if you want to synch notes and such, but if you\'re like me, you\'re more interested in file transfers and such.

There is a huge problem though.  The Zaurus ftpd is so stripped down and over simplified that it\'s useless.  Likewise, the trolltech thing is so slow, clunky, and inflexible that it\'s of no use as well.

Here\'s a better to just transfer files:

Grab a ftpd for windows.  Jaar\'s War-FTPd is tiny and fast, and packs more than enough of a punch for this.

Grab PuTTy, the best free windows ssh client.

SSH into your Zaurus with PuTTy, giving you a bash prompt on a real display and a real keyboard.  From there, ftp back into the win2k box and have at it.  The ftp commands MPUT and MGET will work on the win2k box\'s ftpd, and are supported by the busybox ftp client (but not the zaurus\' default ftpd).

Perhaps it\'d be easier to just get a decent ftp client for windows and run a bigger ftpd on the zaurus, but this is how I do it, and I love it.

I just switched from Sharp ROM 3.1 to Openzaurus on my Z5500.  The hardware worked with sync and file transfers (using Windows ME on the desktop).  However, now that I\'ve switched to OZ, I can\'t synx or file transfer.  Qtopia 1.5 and 1.7 won\'t recognize the Z as being connected.  Help!!!!

try http://opie.handhelds.org/wiki/index.php/OpieSyncing (scroll down to \'Syncing with QtopiaDesktop\').
SL-5500, 256MB Kingston CF card, 128MB EDGE SD card, Thomson HED-155 headphones
OpenZaurus 3.5.3 / Opie (kernel 64-0)

I just to run Sharp Rom 1.3a on my z5000d with Qtopia desktop 1.5 on windows 2000/xp.  I had some problem syncing z, but it worked some times.  After I flash it with OZ 3.2 rom, it can't sync either Qtopia desktop 1.5 or 1.7. what should I try?  Do I need to update the USB driver too?  the one I am using is from Sharp to work with Qtopia 1.5.
