SL-6000 kernel source?

Hi folks,

Just got my SL-6000 and I really like it. I\'m already getting the itch to get my hands on the kernel sources! Does anyone have any idea who to contact to get them? BTW, isn\'t Sharp legally obligated to release the source? Perhaps we should all pester them...

Absolutely. They must release the source and they will (as they did for all the previous models) - sooner or later. Pestering may let this happen sooner, so I\'m all for it

Legally, \"sooner or later\" doesn\'t cut it.  Someone at Sharp ought to read the GPL...

What\'s the best pestering channel?  Sharp US? Sharp Japan?  CS?  Corporate?

Well if you read the GPL they don\'t have to give it to you until you ask. So ask them.

They\'ll most likely release it if only to allow their Enterprise customers the ability to alter the ROM.

All of them.

Does sl-6000 use a newer kernel.  Or does it still use the 2.4.18 kernel.

It\'s 2.4.18, and it\'s also the same CPU as the SL-5600.  To my simple mind, it seems that software written for the 5600 should be right at home on the 6K, but apparently, that\'s not always the case.

It\'s still our ancient buddy 2.4.18-grandpa-embedix - definitly a new kernel revision though, because they have added at least the code for
 * usb host
 * the new audio chip
 * the new wlan stuff
 * the bluetooth thing

Do we know this for sure: do all the 6K kernels support whatever bluetooth chipset the 6KW uses?  (I\'m reluctant to import a Jap 6KW and Anglicise it with a 6KL English ROM for fear of having no BT support.)

Sharp appears to have released the source in Japan today. Of course, they only have the Japanese version at

but still this looks promising. Also, there is only one set of files for the SL-6000, instead of different source packages for the N, L and W.
