Multiple WiFi profiles in OZ 3.3.5
« on: April 07, 2004, 11:16:40 am »
When I used tkcROM, the Network applet and tray icon made it relatively easy to set up multiple WiFi profiles, for logging onto different WLANs.

Now I\'ve switched to OZ, I\'ve set up a working WiFi connection to my home WLAN. However, if I wanted to create additional profiles - say, for connecting to the access point at my brother\'s home - and switch between them, I can\'t work out how this is done in OZ, and the FAQ at the OZ site doesn\'t help.

Is it possible to set up multiple WiFi profiles in OZ 3.3.5, and are they selected automatically depending on which one is detected first, or manually?

Many thanks,
Tim

I set up my network for home use and copied /etc/network/interfaces to /etc/network/interfaces.home.

The konsole program allows you to store several commands in a drop down box.  I have one that issues
\"cp /etc/network/interfaces.home /etc/network/interfaces\".
This sets up my Zaurus for home use.

I ran across this link that shows how to map several profiles directly into /etc/network/interfaces
http://lists.debian.org/debian-powerpc/200...8/msg00505.html
To make it even simpler, I use Opie-SH to bring up a small box on screen that allows me to pick from a drop-down style menu, then click \"OK.\" I can switch to a different network in three clicks. Works great!

I have been looking around for a decent solution to this problem..   Not only to have multiple profiles to manage things like WEP keys, but to allow for decent roaming, where my Z will attach to (or at least show the presence of) new wifi networks.

I found this tool: http://www.stud.uni-hamburg.de/users/lenna...jects/waproamd/

It seems to do just what I want.   I don\'t currently have a cross-compile environment set up, to build a zaurus version.  But, it looks promising.
