Lovely Sync and Charge Cable for 5600 works great :)
« on: April 09, 2004, 05:35:59 pm »
I tested the \"Lovely Sync and Charge Cable for Sharp Zaurus SL-5500/5600\" today and am impressed.  It is 18.99$ (excluding S/H) and has a part number PM-CB-LSYNC-SHARPSL5500 from SuntekStore.com

I did download and installed the SL5600 related software (file transfer and backup portions only) on my XP pro machine at office, connected the cable (retractable - very nice) to the USB port and viola.  It also charges my 5600 - so there is no need for another USB cradle.  I also bought a charger which can be connected to the USB side of it and then to an outlet   (I already have a European type plug gender changer) so I can use it during the international trips (100-240V).

Hope this proves helpful to other 5600 users.
regards
Zafer

Is there any reason this wouldn\'t work with a 6000?

I purchased one of these and it does not sync - the charging works OK however. Is there any chance of you tracing the cable layout on it for me as I suspect the wiring is incorrect on mine

The www.expansys.com \"Serial I/O\" (a brand) is rather good (sync and charge). I got two!

Yeah I got one of the retractable cables that syncs and charges. One thing to bear in mind is that it won\'t charge when using an unpowered USB hub, and even plugged into a host USB port can sometimes charge intermittently if the Z is turned on and running aplications. Given that most USB ports are 500mA maximum output this is understandable.

One other thing to look out for- if yours is like mine (the two cable ends winding onto a central sprung spool, and the cables retract similar to a roller-blind, with distinct \"clicks\" so the cable remains retracted at certain lengths). I had my Z on my desk with the cable extended and caught the corner of the PDA with my shoulder. This was enough to make the cable retract, which it did with surprising speed!   It whipped the plug out of the bottom of the Zaurus and left the PDA itself spinning in a blur near the edge of my desk.... I managed to catch it though, thank the maker. Quite funny when it happened, but could have been worse....

I have no problem with the sync or file transfer with my SL-5600 (using theKompany.rom).

Turns out I had a faulty cable - it all seems fine now. They replaced it no problems

But can you still open the keyboard while using this cable?
I know you can with the z-thin cable, how about this one.?
