6000L Outdoor Viewing Tips?

I just got a 6000L. How is the screen supposed to look while viewing the 6000L in sunlight? I expected the 6000L\'s screen to be bright and easy to read in sunlight. But when I viewed the screen in sunlight, it was about the same as viewing the screen indoors at its lowest brightness setting. I had to hold the screen at just the right angle to see it. If I moved from direct sunlight to a shaded area, the screen was too dark to see. Is this normal for transflective screens? The screen looks great while viewing it indoors with the backlight on. It doesn\'t seem very usable outdoors though. Am I doing something wrong?

You will notice that with all colour transflective LCD screens. My Sony Clie NX70V was virtually unusable outside except in direct sunlight, my 860 seems a bit better, it has the same screen as yours.  Gameboy Advance, my old 5500 were all the same. Then again if you try and watch CRT TV outside in the sun, you won\'t see it too good either.

It goes with the territory.

Black and white LCD like on a Palm or digital watch works fine outside.

Thanks for the information. This is the first transflective screen I\'ve seen in person. I got the impression from reading Sharp press releases and advertising that the screen would look as good outdoors as it does indoors. I guess the advertising was  a little optimistic.  

I just had the wrong expectations, I guess.

I can\'t say that I would expect the viewability to be the same outdoors as indoors, but the point of the transreflective screen is that it should be reasonably viewable in direct sunlight.  I have had my 5500 in direct sunlight, and I would say that it was quite viewable.  It wasn\'t necessarily bright, but it definitely was readable.  On the other hand, the viewability of my 760 in direct sunlight is terrible, practically unreadable.  Which is expected as it\'s not transreflective.

The SL6000 screen is not the same as the Cxxx screens. The Cxxx screens are only transmissive, so they can be washed out in direct sunlight, like a CRT TV. The 5x00 screens are reflective so they are still viewable in direct sunlight, although I don\'t think any LCD technology currently looks perfect under direct sunlight. The 6000\'s transflective screen shouldn\'t get washed out as it has the best of both worlds and while it may not be perfect, you should still be able to see it well enough to be usable.
