Does tkcROM Sync at all??
« on: April 19, 2004, 01:46:43 am »
I have been a zaurus 5500 user since they were released straight after the 5000 development version.

I\'ve used all the roms so far and the best one in my opinion is the tkcROM for my needs..

Works perfect for wireless connectivity, ssh into unix boxes, calender, pdf, etc etc... but for the life of me it doesn\'t sync with my mac or pc.... but in both cases, i can ping it, ssh into it... the connectivity is there..

I use tkcROM 2.0 alpha 3 and qtopia 1.7 for both mac and pc.

I connect the Z to both PC and Mac using the usb cradle, and connectivity is ok..

i ran ethereal to see what\'s going on, the pc or mac (qtopia) sends syns to the Z but the Z sends resets back... therefore no sync... i can\'t recall the ports but it was 4245 or 4243 ?

I have installed opie-security from the ZUG feed to allow \"any\" to sync but still no go...

What\'s the deal here? what qtopia version does sync with tkcROM?

I met same problem (you can see my post some days before).
I found that it is possible to connect by using QTopia 1.5.4 (from PC Soft for SharpROM 3.13) but since I have opie installed (or may be by some other reason) it is not possible to synhonize it: no any data transfered from/to device

tkcROM is based on the latest Sharp ROMs, which uses a propriertary PIM data format and sync framework. Therefore tkcROM will only sync using Sharp\'s release of Qtopia Desktop which has been given the version number 1.5.4 to match the version of Qtopia on the Zaurus. This version of Qtopia Desktop is only available for Windows and since it is closed source, there isn\'t much that can be done about this. Sharp do not support any other desktop platforms.

OPIE PIM apps will not sync using Qtopia Desktop 1.5.4 because they still use the old XML data format, which is what the Trolltech versions of Qtopia Desktop (like v1.7) still use. However Trolltech\'s Qtopia Desktop also uses the only sync method, which isn\'t available on tkcROM.

So, tkcROM will only sync when you are using the default Sharp PIM apps and a Windows PC with Qtopia Desktop 1.5.4

All clear?

Thanks for the info....
I removed qtopia 1.7 and installed the original sharp one from the cd... it was version 1.5 and didn\'t work... so i went searching the net for version 1.5.4 and found
5500v310U.zip (inkl. ROM, Qtopia Dekstop 1.5.4, Intellisync 3.2E, oppdaterte USB Drivere).... downloaded this aswell but it was version 1.5.5 for the 5600 and again it didn\'t work.... they all try to sync to port 4243 whereas the Z is listening on 4244... searched and search but still could not find 1.5.4......

does anyone know where to get sharp qtopia 1.5.4 ?
