Boot menu is missing
« on: January 30, 2022, 10:20:25 pm »
Hi everyone,

I am new here and I got my Communicator a few days ago. I usually root my Android devices and install custom ROMs so I am familiar with flashing process but on this device I can't access the boot menu if I press the ESC and VOL + buttons second time. Device turns off after a few seconds when I do that combination at "No command" black screen.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks

The best method is probably to use the officail multi-boot installation including both normal and rooted android provided by Planet Computers.  You can find information on the Planet website and there is lots of information on other threads on this forum as well.

Thank you for the suggestion. I am actually trying to install Linux on my device but still can't reach the boot menu. I was wondering if it is something related to boot slots.

Are you using the Vol+ from the keyboard or the toggle switch on the CoDi?  I think it has to be the one on the CoDi.
I also recall it's a bit fiddly with the Esc and Vol+ to get from the dead android screen to the recovery menu proper.  I think the sequence is:
1.  Press (and hold) Esc
2.  Press (and hold) CoDi Vol+
3.  Release CoDi Vol+
4.  Release Esc
I'm not sure on this sequence, it's been a while, but I remember it being a bit fiddly and particular.
If you are getting a reboot the device may be only seeing your Esc key press which is also the power button.
Here's the link to the Planet Linux procedure anyway, this has worked for me in the past, let us know how you get on.
